Georgia is still by far a Red State, but its clear that Dem outreach towards Blacks is working along with the Youth. Overall this victory while for a Senate seat, is also a microcosm of Southern White Fears. College Educated Whites and Blacks voting for the Dems, in the South. Warnock won 4 races for a 6 year term, but he won 4 races... in Georgia.

Its another problem Republicans have to find an answer for, but really none exist.
It's got to be considered purple at this point because the suburbs are almost all Dem and the suburban/urban vote controls who wins. Any state where that's true (and where the suburban/urban is enough of the overall state population) is purple.

I've heard that Warnock might be a prime presidential candidate in the near future sure to these wins. If a black man can win multiple senate elections in a red racist southern state, that can carry over in a national election.

Him and Pete Buttigieg as VP could be a nice ticket in 28 against desanctimonious or whoever the GOP runs out there

Another factor is the growing number of transplants (a large proportion nonwhite, especially Asians/Indians/Latinos) in Metro Atlanta.

I think there is a good chance that the political change in Georgia will be lasting.

this is solely because of candidate quality. dem outreach didnt help abrams. walker severely underperformed when compared to kemp. too many republican voters with a conscience had to go against him, and even then, it was close enough for a runoff. they wont next time when they choose a non-mentally challenged trumper who has never paid for abortions.

I don’t know about that.

Governor and senate races have different dynamics. There are plenty of voters who dislike what republicans stand for in general and want dems in charge at the national level, but will vote republican locally based on their pocketbook or local rules/regulations. I don’t think it makes sense to decouple national and local politics, but plenty of voters do.

National politics: big ideas, ideology, abstract principles

local politics: more specific proposals are on the table

1)Warnock doesn't have the charisma. He's dull.
2)A black man cannot win a national election under normal circumstances. Especially in a post Trumpism world.
3)Pete Buttigeg cannot win as a Presidential or Vice Presidential candidate because he's gay.

I agree.

We’ll call it purple for the larger elections and red for the state positions.

Regardless, I think the state will continue to move left as the Atlanta/Augusta/Savannah/Columbus/Macon metros grow. The rural areas have maxed out in terms of GOP percentage and from my guess, aren’t growing nearly as fast as the above cities.

If Democrats get into the exurbs of Atlanta like Forsyth, Cherokee, Bartow, etc. its over for Republicans.
