If their "sole purpose" is to kill men, where does killing other species fit into that? Or do you believe the children are men?

Their original purpose was killing humans, they probably gained sentience beyond what the Children could control, and turned on them. It's a well worn trope.

This is to the larger conversation at hand, about King's Landing and/or the political sub plots....did you guys forget this image from Bran's vision?

Winter is coming to King's Landing. I know some people interpret this as "Snow on the throne" but no other vision he's ever had has been symbolic. It's all stuff that has happened, or will happen.

I agree that the creation turning against the creators is a well worn trope. The point is they are motivated beyond killing men, or their "sole purpose". which is why they killed the Children instead of mindlessly just killing men. With the reveal that the original white walker was a human, likely a northerner, maybe even a Stark, it just doesn't seem likely that their motivations stop growing from there.

I also have reinterpreted that throne room scene. I believe Cersei is going to burn King's Landing with wildfire and when Dany gets there, she'll find a destroyed throne room of ash.

or maybe those boys could've just grown up in a situation that isn't a) undead invaders who've slaughtered 99% of people they've come across or b) inhuman scumbags who deal with group a to create incestuous harems

yal are trying to create something that isn't there instead of just taking what the story has obviously given you
:dwillhuh: but their mothers are their sisters

are you saying westeros could not be a fukked up place? i agree of course, but it's not really an argument when we're discussing fantasy literature

have you read WOIAF? the first men, the children, the andals, all of the peoples in essos and beyond, they've all got blood on their hands and all live in relative peace compared to their beginnings in this universe. why would the white walkers be so different?

the story gave us starks as paragons of nobility and virtue, but the more you watch and/or read, the more you see they're kinda grimy too

blood on your hands is common

incestuous harems founded on providing murderous undead with infant males though - who does that? take your time listing those houses. i'll wait :sas2:

but how could those kids avoid that? Last Hearth starting a Contraceptive Campaign for Free Folk?

Anyway that's my point, being a white walker goon > being raised by your mom/sister under the watch of your crazy father/grandfather = dying in the snow as an infant

your argument makes no sense. as if incestuous harem and undead mob are the only options out there

kids are kids - literally chained to their upbringing.

I believe that too, but I doubt that's ash.

Regardless, let's say you're right. Snowing ash usually only happens during the largest forest fires. So most or all of King's Landing would probably be gone in that case....which changes the dynamic of the show. Suddenly the Iron Throne is obsolete, along with any sub plots dealing with it. Which is a great way to wrap up the arcs in King's Landing and destabilize one of the strongest kingdoms in the show.

That's what I'm talking about when I say fold these plots into what's going on with the White Walkers. I don't mean Cersei needs to be out there fighting the undead.

The implication is that the Night King was created, purely, to kill the first men, yet he got out of control of the children (if he ever was in their control) and became this pure evil killing machine.

D&D explicitly refer to him as the "embodiment of absolute evil" and even address that GRRM quote by pointing out that even absolute evil isn't absolute since the Night King was a created from a captured first man.

Or do you believe the children are men?

So what do you think Cersei is going to be doing while this battle w/ White Walkers is going on? I don't believe she'll be concerned with Ice Zombies, I believe she'll be involved with the fallout of her actions, incluing the political vacuum that will be left after the capital is destroyed. The destabilized kingdom is a haven for more political drama. The Throne Room being destroyed doesn't mean the kingdom is. That is what I mean when I say I believe the political aspects of the show will continue, even while a White Walker plot is going on.
