It wouldn't shock me. The showrunners signed on to adapt his story from paper to film, not freestyle their own fanfic towards his conclusion. George left them out to dry.
Thats kind of bullshyt though.
When the whole process went down, HBO, the showrunners, and GRRM ALL KNEW that he was nowhere close to finishing the series and assuming he didn’t say some shyt like “the series will be finished in two years, TRUST me” then everybody involved should have went into this endeavor with the understanding that this could happen.
Which is why GRRM apparently shared with D&D the logistics of the major story beats BEFORE they got started. To help them with the eventuality of the show surpassing the books. What right would D&D or ANYBODY at HBO have to beef with GRRM about him not finishing a series that had ALREADY gained a reputation for long hiatuses between books.
I’d tell D&D to suck my dikk if they EVER tried coming at me with any bullshyt about any of the show’s flaws being MY fault if I was GRRM. Martin already told them how the story ends, already told them the amount of seasons they’d need to tell the story properly, and they STILL decided to forge ahead with a rushed and half assed ending. Thats THEIR fault not GRRM’s
