I actually watched this earlier, I always thought the Bran/NightKing Theory was lame too, but when set out like that it’s actually pretty dope, or some kinda variation of that anyway.
Bran realises Jon isn’t Going to get through to the Godswood and most of theons men are dead, so tries one last ditch effort to go back further than he ever has by himself, fails to convince the CORF and gets caught in the night kings body, knows he has a connection to Bran because of their abilities and makes him a priority to kill since his memory would be gone forever, pretty dope.

It wouldn't shock me. The showrunners signed on to adapt his story from paper to film, not freestyle their own fanfic towards his conclusion. George left them out to dry.
