I'm with everyone that says that Season 7 should've been 10 episodes. You do that and figure a smarter way to convince Dany to go North - basically replace that retarded "let's go get a functional wight" mission - and separate Jamie from Cercei and it's a much more solid foundation for the final season as everything has more time to develop and even with a more frantic pace, you can build shyt up without feeling so plot driven. This finale should've been at least 8 episodes too.
And as much shyt as D&D are getting, deservedly so, we can't just forget they were also behind stuff like Hardhome, BOTB and Winds of Winter. Episodes that almost entirely deviated from the books, and needed their hand to be as amazing as they were. Hell, episode 2 from this season was fukking awesome and it also had the frantic pace they've given the last 2 seasons.
It's not that D&D CAN'T make this finale work, it's just that they lost any desire to put the necessary work to give it and ending that would be much more than just spectacle and cheap swerves. And that is a shame.
I also think people tend to go a little too overboard over a show that might not be GOAT level, but it's still a fukking awesome TV series. So I get that people still enjoy the fukk out of it and get annoyed at all the current bytching. Which again, it's warranted, but I see both sides of it, the show still gets spectacle like no other and that's enough for some. That's fine too
Showrunners told us the Dothraki were wiped out in the after the episode and then during the next episode we find out less than half were gone
Supposedly half of the Unsullied were alive too but like 200 were with Dany during the failed negotiation with Cercei
To me, Episode 3 had enough good shyt to look past the "wrap this shyt up ASAP" writing.
Episode 4 was just too damn much, as it didn't have the stakes nor the sense of dread/tension as Ep. 3 so all we were left was D&D's "can we just finish this shyt already?" storytelling
