Boehner Plan B: House Republicans humiliate their leader

Jennifer Rubin writes the Right Turn blog for The Post, offering reported opinion from a conservative perspective.

The outcome stunned House leadership: In one vote (or nonvote), the all-or-nothing crowd handed the high ground back to the president, who can now rightly claim that House Republicans would rather raise everyone’s taxes than raise them on millionaires.
A Republican senior aide explained, “We have some members that would rather let all tax rates go up ‘without their fingerprints’ than save some taxpayers from a tax hike and letting just the top rate go up. That is what it amounts to.”
Unfortunately his caucus has rendered Boehner a nonplayer in any future fiscal negotiation because he can no longer speak for his conference. Perhaps Boehner should quit and let the House GOP stew and watch as the country grabs pitchforks and torches to come after the tax-hikers. This is a party acting like a minority party, or worse, like petulant teenagers.

The world of Heritage Action Network, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) and the other all-or-nothing hard-liners in the conservative media have encouraged and will delight in this sort of fiasco. That said, the fault lies with the spineless members who think they’ll escape blame if they don’t vote for any measure. That is folly, not to mention political cowardice. To govern is to choose, and they apparently can do neither.

This sort of display suggests Republicans are not capable of governing. What was an argument by Democrats (They are unreasonable! They only care for the rich!) is now a political reality.

A lot of brays in that income range don't pay any taxes. If people werent crying about that theyd be crying about them getting rid of deductions. One way or another they gotta generate revenue... I think a good place to start would be w/folks that pay no taxes. I would go for deductions over rates

they don't pay at the end, however, on their check the deductions are going to go up come the 1st.

Personally I say let them come. We can't expect to have all this shyt and not pay for it. After that we really, really need to take a hard and serious look at defense spending, particularly in regards to WHO THE FUK IS GETTING ALL THAT MONEY. We all know their kickbacks going on there. For that amount of money in comparission to other country we should be on that "robots fighting for us tip".

If you look at the actual budget though from the whitehouse in about 10-15 years medicare (the aid to non senior citizens) is going to surpass even defense spending. Ultimately we need to address healthcare in america and in doing that we're going to have to pay for it or do something about the cost of it.

Edge of a knife fam, we're really on one rightnow and most people don't even know it.

Rethugs are trying to force Obama to let the rates go up, I say let them and stick that blame on rethugs and let that shyt simmer. Taking oaths n shyt to non-elected, non-government entities is damn near treasonous.

I say we go over the cliff, then on the first bring up a 1 item bill. Tax cuts for the middle class.

Who's goign to vote that down?

Taxes are going up for the rich regardless. I pray this is the card Obama is holding on to. IF the rethugs don't want to play, which it's clear they don't, then fuk'em.

What's sad is politically their PLEDGE is all that matters. Given the scenario above the rethugs would still be able to stand by their "we didn't raise taxes" pledge. IN fact mark my words they'll try to co-opt the middle class tax break after the first of the month as proof they are trying to "lower taxes" not raise them.

Snakes...all of them are snakes.

Can someone explain what happened with Boehner? News sites are talking like he :flabbynsick:'d himself

And what does it mean for the fiscal cliff negotiations?

In a nutshell he had a proposal that would raise taxes on people over 1million. His own party told him to go fuk himself, they killed his bill. Now how does one negotiate with someone when he can't even get HIS OWN plan passed within his own party?

I really think both sides are goign to let it all go to shyt then focus on getting the middle class tax break back after it the first of January.

It's politics. Rethugs won't break their pledge. Dems wont look soft.

Ultimately the rich pay more and can blame the dems.
The poor middle class get their tax break after a week or two and both sides save face.
