The difference between Floyd/Berto and this card is that there was the very high chance of this one being an exciting slugfest while there was zero chance of anything exciting happening in Floyd/Berto.

So according to Max the onus is on the smaller cats to move up and fight a guy that was 170 lbs in the ring tonight.....and no mention of him moving up? The narrative is strong.

I think it's because the lineal MW title is a huge deal and Cotto is keeping GGG from that big career achievement. It's weird to move up before becoming the lineal champ in your division.

I'm not buying that. He had a JCC Jr fight at 168 nearly signed, until Haymon lured JCC over and Arum tried to sneak in an extension. He was also in talks to fight Froch at 168 too. So he would've ALREADY fought at 168 if those two didn't fall through.

Avoiding Ward is a special thing, because Ward is a special fighter with almost no commercial appeal for GGG.

GGG could plausibly sit at 160 while all the talented 154 guys, like Andrade, come up to him. He just HAS to get that Cotto/Canelo winner for that to happen.

Yes he is. GGG was paid about a milly to step aside and let Cotto and Canelo fight. Technically the only way Canelo or Cotto get out of fighting GGG is by handing the belt over and choosing not to fight.
