That debate showed RobTV legit can’t put up a good defense when on the back foot; just like his Guile. :trollbron:

He got destroyed by Ethiopian Destiny.
Problem is Fanatiq is still not "defending" Art like he says he is and is doing nothing but changing the minds of a few idiots. RobTv was not that articulate but he made the point that only mattered: why did Art send money to himself to pay players when it was not necessary?

Ehhh, at this point i can not say he maliciously stole money from players but moving the money around like he did they may have taken a loss.

Below is from a blog post defending Art: Arturo Sanchez, Matcherino, and the Slow Heat Death of the FGC
There is one other aspect to the ‘skimming’ claim that should be addressed. There was a particular example of monies owed to a player named MasterMike for this event, which was winner-take-all despite the description. That amount, clearly, was $305.63, and Arturo did pay that amount via Paypal. Here is a receipt for that payment:

There was a bit of to-do about this, as $270 is clearly not the same amount on the Matcherino. There appears to at least be a partial explanation, however: both Matcherino and Paypal take out fees anytime anyone cashes out from the website, as explained in the FAQ:

screenshot-243.png

To break it down:

  • Matcherino automatically takes 4%, so that’s roughly $12.23. 305.63 – 12.23 = 293.40

  • Paypal, according to their site, takes 3.49% + .49 cents for Paypal Checkout for merchants, or roughly 10.24 + .49 cents. $293.40 – 10.73 = $282.67

That leaves roughly $12.67 to account for. Arturo frequently cites that he “assumed tax liability” and lost money doing transactions through Paypal, as it would count as earned income that increased the taxes he’d been saddled with. This is hardly farfetched, as New York is infamous for its heavy taxes on anything gambling related, but it’s unclear if that applies in the form of an immediate state tax on cash out. If that is the case, the 4.5% NY state tax for earners in the $21,401-$80,650 range, which is a reasonable assumption of where Arturo is at, would take the total down into the $260 range. After that, Arturo transferring those monies via Paypal’s Friends and Family option would make it not taxable, and the tax liability claim would check out.

But is that all there is? Again, it’s not clear that if MasterMike were to cash out via Matcherino he’d assume the same state tax. Given Sanchez’s previous good standing with regards to paying out, this would seem like an odd exception. This is worth investigating and following up on, but in good faith and with the presumption that Arturo was not trying to short the player.

So the question is, is Art sending the money after putting it into his account F&F (no tax) or G&S (taxed)? If he is sending it G&S then the money is going to be taxed again when it should not be if the money was sent through Matcherino. If he is sending it F&F then it is not taxed, but is he sending the entire thing or taking a percentage? Because money coming in like that from Matcherino is seen as income and taxable how is he making up for that loss? Not only that, sending the money F&F is wrong because that money is still winnings that are taxable. The tax he pays in NY may be higher than where the player lives, or where the event was.. If it is true that the extra money is eaten up by state taxes, then why should someone from Texas be subjected to NY taxes?

People keep saying how hard it is because not everyone has a Matcherino account, but that is bullshyt. If you do not have one create one and if you do not have a PayPal account to link, create one. If you are not an adult have your parents create one. If you do not have anything and you are an adult and can not, stop being a fukking bum and get your life together.

The problem is now players have to check and see if they got all of the money they were supposed to. It is not enough that you were paid, but were you paid your full amount. This would not of been a problem if he paid out people through Matcherino or if they did not have an account, leave the money where it was and let Matcherino know what is up. Now i am sure Matcherino is dealing with messages about how they were not paid the full amount or paid at all, which now Art has to prove if he sent it through his PayPal.

Also depending on what is found ( i am sure Matcherino is investigating his dealings with the platform) and if they have to come out of their own pocket to pay people either partially or fully, i can see Art getting hit with a charge or two.
