I haven’t watched the anime Evangelion in like 12-13 years. Never seen End. Do I need to rewatch to get this movie? Or is it kinda stand alone

edit: I’m just becoming aware of the three previous films
I used to spend hours reading about the lore of Neon before it was easy to get access to the actual media via streaming or physical copies of subs.

No doubt. I’ve loved Evangelion since I was 15, although my favorite all time anime is Rahxephon (which some erroneously call an Eva ripoff) I could always appreciate the superiority of Eva’s overall character development

yes. its a weirdos take on mixing gnosticism/middle eastern religions/chariots of gods with some doomsday cult shyt. (im simplifying) but all the angels are based off of how angels are described in the bible. the nerve symbol is a fig leave which has a lot to do with adam and eve and "lilith"... blah blah blah. While using “religion” to understand the human condition and self actualization

there's a video i had saved that explains a lot of the shyt way better than me typing the shyt out. i'll see if i can find it and link it.

this is more so related to the OG version. I'm watching thees newer movies now, and some things are different, but it still relates

The story (on the surface) is totally nonsensical but less interesting than the subtext and meta narrative apparent throughout these movies and the original series.
