I'm old enough to remember when Dave told jokes. Killin Em Softly is my absolute favorite comedy special of all time. Even the follow-up he did in San Fran was underrated as hell. But man, he has lost me. I wanna laugh when I see Chappelle not be preached to. Just my honest take, glad some of y'all enjoyed it
Have you not seen Dave in the last decade? Comedians evolve and change over time. I’m fine with people not liking the style of comedy but he’s been on this “just talk to you” wave for a while. When the observations are poignant and on point I enjoy it more than a constant barrage of jokes about nothing.

This is really the "individual" that is the showrunner to Dear White People--a show I didn't know had multiple seasons, based on a #NewBlack ass corny movie?

:snoop:

:mjlol:

The showrunner isn't slick - I gave the most recent season a shot. Trash. This is their 'I fired them, they didn't fire me' play.

How a White transgender person ends up as showrunner for a show about the 10's/20's Black college experience is 1) anyone's guess and 2) a terrible fukking pick.

That shyt is privilege and anyone trying to argue otherwise is doing it from a place of dishonesty.

What's that mean?
People are trying to dismiss that woman(?)’s criticism of Dave pointing out that she’s white and is a show runner for a black show.

but white folks have been in these roles for black programs for decades. Neal is just an example.

dave has always had a pretty diverse audience, actually caught a bit of flack at the beginning of his career for being considered white people humor.

he’s still a black man at the end of the day, but it wasn’t exactly for us by us type of humor

He's been on his current style honestly for longer than he was doing his older style at this point.

I think Dave has transcended standup and he's now just sort of a legendary orator/public speaker

Neal wasn’t the show runner though, he ran it with Dave, this white bytch is the sole showrunner for a black show. She’s the overall creative authority over the entire show. Dave and Neal were equal partners with Dave being the real face of the show. Neal was a great skit writer but Dave was the face and soul of the show. It’s just different.

Just for clarity Justin Simeon who wrote and directed the movie Dear White People is also the creator of the series version. I ASSUMED he was also the showrunner too but I don’t think the white transsexual lady is the SOLE driving force of the show.

Still the fact that she’s a showrunner at ALL of a show that was created to heavily focus on the BLACK experience from BLACK perspectives is wildly flagrant. It’d be like Steven Spielberg being a co-writer for the screenplay to Malcolm X and co-director. Wrong on all accounts

Justin got a producer credit but that’s literally what a showrunner is, they have sole creative authority and manage the direction the show goes in, they’re basically the director of the show. That’s why they’re so important to the quality of the show and that’s why the show is shyt in comparison to the film. All the major creative decisions in game of thrones for example were made by D&D who were the show runners. HBO wanted like three more seasons and they decided to rush everything so they could do the Star Wars project that they ended up not getting because they signed a deal with Netflix.
