Having just watched the episode, it’s crazy to see the disconnect from what’s considered normal in the business contrasted to what’s actually normal and acceptable in society. These guys destroyed that plane, leaving drugs and bodily fluids behind, traumatized the crew and look at it fondly like a big joke. I can see why the Plane Ride from Hell has never really been spoken on to this level before, because it’s a microcosm of the absolute worst aspects of the wrestling industry in one plane cabin

I have a question.. How is Vice able to do episodes like this and not get sued by the WWE?
How are they able to obtain WWE footage and use it to chastise the company and not have their shyt blocked or shut down?

I haven’t figured this out either.

And people on here said they can show 7 seconds of WWE footage without clearing it, BUT, the producers were on a podcast talking about the lengths they had to go through to the chase down the rights to show the XPW footage of New Jack, so I doubt that

Maybe they had to get clearance for XPW because it was privately owned? The E is a publicly traded company, maybe that’s why?

They don't really show any WWE owned footage, and WWE talent have not appeared on the show. Bruce Prichard was in season one, but that was before he went back to the WWE. The stories are all done with re-enactments/silhouette acting too.

Because this is actually the tame (by carnie standards, terrible by normal people standards) shyt that's been in circulation for years. This doc hasn't (and probably won't, but they might surprise me) touched on some of the even more foul shyt that has gone on within the business, which is a horrifying thought to consider once you realize the things they've already covered.

Let's say Vince decided to sue over the content that has been shown so far. That opens up the possibility of a LOT of skeletons in his closet that otherwise would never see the light of day possibly being dragged out to light due to the nature of DSOTR. Like Patterson & The Cream Team, and Vince's hand in not only covering it up but keeping Pat employed and in the public eye for another few decades. Or those old stories of him (allegedly) pimping out Steph to business associates when she was as young as 17 years old.

I guess I never noticed it since it's always grainy as opposed to a direct high quality use of footage.

Here's something I found from a quick search:

Andrew Goldstein, a former WWE writer who currently serves as showrunner for Dark Side of the Ring Confidential, recently joined the Wrestling-Wrestling podcast, and he discussed how the series is able to use WWE footage. Here are some of the highlights (via Fightful):

Andrew Goldstein on Dark Side of the Ring using WWE footage: “WWE owns so much of wrestling history. Those guys do such a great and creative job of finding other ways to use B roll. There are certain legal loopholes and you can make fair use of arguments since VICE is a news channel and there are ways to skirt the laws of copyright and you can license footage. Those guys do such a great job of finding all the best stuff that WWE doesn’t own or finding ways to use stuff WWE does own in a legal way.”

On the process of securing footage for the series: “In terms of stuff we wanted to use, there were little things. In hours I’m doing work, I’m on the phone with our lawyer and rights and clearances person being like, ‘Is there a chance we can get away with using this picture of Heidenreich?’ I wanted to show the different versions of LOD after they had broken up. There’s not a lot of pictures of Animal and Heidenreich or Hawk and Sasaki in Japan as that version. That stuff is hard. Another one is, I had these knockdown dragout situations, begging to use the actual footage from Starrcade 88, the scaffold match with Road Warriors and Midnight Express. The guys at the table specifically reference the spot where Jim Cornette hangs from the scaffold and falls. Big Bubba is supposed to catch him and Cornette drops like a sack of potatoes and destroys both of his knees because Big Bubba whiffs. I wanted to match that footage with what the guys were specifically talking about. Eventually, we got it in, but that was a struggle.”

Watching this shows that most of these nikkas never matured mentally past the age of 17. Tommy Dreamer is 50 with daughters still doing "boys will be boys" shyt. A lot of these cats were acting like this shyt was appropriate in 2002.

It's funny that none of their big stars (Taker, Kurt, Austin, Rock, HHH, Show, Jericho, ) weren't mentioned at all. They had to have been on that flight too. Especially since Vince was trying to shoot on Kurt and told the pilot to shut the fukk up.
