Gardening for profit sounds great. But isn't it difficult to get a license/permit from the FDA? They have Monsanto up their ass so they're doing everything they can to eliminate competition and destroy small farmers. People have had SWAT teams raid their farms and shyt.

They tend to reach harvest quickly as well. I'm planning to use hydroponics to grow my food and sell what I can't eat.

That's what I'm wondering though. Don't you need a permit from the FDA? I doubt you could just sell things all willy nilly like that. (unless you're selling it to your neighbor, family, and friends)

From what I've seen in Houston, people basically grow food and set up shop at a farmer's market, a local co-op or sell right on the road like Latinos usually do. You can operate without one but getting one in Houston is about $7. Very low overhead if you're growing and selling food.

Latinos usually get around it but selling the food out of their trucks though. There are exemptions to doing such things:

I planted some pansies on Saturday, and I'm putting in some hydrangeas.

I researched tomatoes, and I put a few slices in some dirt to get sprouts. I also threw a few whole cherry tomatoes in the ground just to see what happens.

:yeshrug:

Let's say I put some apple seeds from an apple in the ground. Will I have an apple tree in a few years, or should I just buy a tree?

This year's plan so far: I have four raised bed plots I made with old pallets and wood:

Plot 1: Broccolli/cauliflower

Plot 2: Collards / herbs & strawberry plant (about 3 years old)

Plot 3: Sweet potatoes (I might be too late to get slips though)

Plot 4: Hot peppers: habanero, jalapeno, and okra
