The IPCC report basically states we will reach 1.5 Celsius. Just to clarify 1.5 means first world countries will be alright for the most part. We will get more stronger hurricanes and have them hit the north like Sandy did. It will happen more often. However it means poor countries facing famine, water insecurity. This includes the Middle East, North Africa, Sahel region,Central Asia, Latin America and south East Asia. Basically what we saw during the Arab spring but on steroids. So get ready to see governments collapse into civil war and chaos. Syria, Libya, Yemen and Mali was a preview of what’s to come for these nations. Means more terrorism, civil war, violence and also refugees swarming to the first world.

What we see at the border is only the beginning. What do you think will happen when Central American countries get hit by more flooding and storms? What do you think will happen when drought leads to famine in Mexico? What do you think will happen when hurricanes like Maria hit Caribbean countries leading to massive refugees to the US? We will see increased right wing propaganda about migrants going to the western countries leading to election results we saw in 2016.

2-3 degrees Celsius means first world countries facing food insecurity, water insecurity, rising sea levels making costal cities damn near uninhabitable. shyt is real we need massive global action but it’s not gonna happen. If people threw a bytch fit about wearing masks, lockdowns and vaccines against a pandemic nothing will done about climate change unfortunately. We need to focus on mitigation measures now.

Yep. All of this. Covid has really hurt my faith in our ability to all pull in one direction for a greater cause. I've always been an optimist, and I still am. I'm trying really hard to find a silver lining and not fall into indifference or pessimism...but it can be difficult some days.

Until New York or London gets wiped out I don't see the 1st world countries giving enuff of a damn to do what needs to have been done way before.
