SHIIT IS RARE AS FUCC...I USED TO HAVE A DVD OF IT THAT I LOST. WAY BETTER THAN THE RELEASED VERSION OF 6.

Its the original workprint the 96 minute oneI'M GETTIN OLD...IS IT THE SAME PRODUCERS CUT THAT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET ABOUT A DECADE AGO OR DID THEY EDIT IT DIFFERENTLY?
WELL U DONT EVEN LIKE THE SISTER ANGLE, WHICH IS WHAT THE ENTIRE FRANCHISE IS BASED ON LOL... SO OF COURSE YOU WONT LIKE THE THORN ANGLE. BUT I LIKED ALL THAT SHIIT. AND TO ME, THE PRODUCERS CUT OF 6 IS THE 3RD BEST BEHIND 1 AND 2.
THE ONLY WHACK FILM IN THE FRANCHISE TO ME WAS 8 (I DONT COUNT 3)
Its the original workprint the 96 minute one
The entire franchise isn’t based on that. If it were, Carpenter wouldn’t have only added it in part 2 breh. And he wouldn’t have said it’s all due to six packs of brew. He’s said this repeatedly.
And it’s not the sister angle I don’t like for part 6. It’s all that curse of thorn bullshyt. It just gets needlessly convoluted and becomes a big ass soap opera. And the characters in it, the actual characters not Michael, are just fodder for him to kill. The actors all do the best job with what they have and pleasance is as always, doing his best work even on his death bed, but it just doesn’t work for me. Men in black, more plot twists from part 1 that don’t really hit, a beavis and butthead reference, an incest angle, AND magic stones that soothe him? Nah man I cant get with all that.
CARPENTER CAN SAY WHATEVER THE FUCC HE WANTS, HALLOWEEN 2 IS STILL A TIMELESS CLASSIC AND THE FRANCHISE TOOK A LIFE OF ITS OWN, LARGER THAN HIM.
THE CURSE OF THE THORN IS DOPER THAN HIM BEIN A MINDLESS KILLER TO ME. I LIKE WHEN CHARACTERS GROW THROUGH THE SEQUELS AND THATS WHAT MAKES HALLOWEEN A CLASSIC FRANCHISE. YOU CAN'T GO 8 MOVIES WITH HIM JUST BEIN A MINDLESS KILLER- IT GOES STALE. YOU NEED A PLOT TO KEEP THINGS INTERESTING, AND THEY DID THAT WELL.
WHAT UPSETS ME MORE IS IGNORING THE PREVIOUS FILMS...THERES A WAY TO TIE THEM IN AND KEEP THE FRANCHISE LEGIT. LIKE HOW 7 AND 8 IGNORED 4, 5, AND 6..AND NOW THIS LATEST ONE IGNORES ALL OF THEM BUT THE FIRST. SOMETHING ABOUT THAT DOESN'T SIT RIGHT WITH ME.
I’m on the opposite. I don’t like a reason for Michael being a killer. It’s scarier to me and more interesting the less I know. I don’t need cults or curses or family drama or none of that. The more you explain something to me, the less it becomes a threat. The Halloween series, one I love mind you, basically became a horror version of All My Children. If you weren’t a Myers or a stride or associated with them, then you’re safe.
And yeah Halloween 2 is cool if the man who wrote it says it was a mistake and, and he said that at the time mind you, I’m more inclined to hear him out then tell him his opinion is null and void. Doesn’t mean I can’t like it or that you can’t like it. But he liked the purity of part 1. There’s an interview he did in ‘84 talking about the movie and he doesn’t hold back. I get it; if I created something that I wasn’t cool with or proud of or I felt was a mistake, i won’t hold back.
And to your last point, you erase those movies to get back to simplicity of part 1. Trying to incorporate everything in a new movie, including the twists and turns and family trees just becomes too much and too cumbersome as writers and potentially an audience. You gotta find the easiest entry point. Acknowledging only part 1 is that entry point.
The fan in me hears you but the creator in me makes me side with them and Carpenter on this one.
I GET WHERE YOU'RE COMING FROM, BUT YOU CAN'T HAVE A FRANCHISE WITHOUT BUILDING ON A STORYLINE, REGARDLESS... AND SOMETIMES ARTISTS CAN BE VERY SELF-CRITICAL OF THEIR WORK, TO THE POINT WHERE THEY TEND TO OVERANALYZE IT. WHETHER CARPENTER LIKES HALLOWEEN 2 OR NOT, IT WILL FOREVER REMAIN A CLASSIC. HIM NOT LIKING IT WONT MAKE ME LIKE IT ANY LESS, IF U GET MY DRIFT.
I ALSO THINK THEY DON'T NEED TO DWELL ON THE STORYLINES FROM THE PAST, BUT ALSO DON'T NEED TO OUTRIGHT IGNORE IT. THERE COULD'VE BEEN A WAY TO DO THIS FILM WHERE LAURIE WAS STILL HIS SISTER. IT REALLY WOULDN'T HAVE MADE MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE IMO.
They didn’t want the relationship tho. So you kinda have to ignore everything after 1 if that’s what you want to do. If you say “let’s get back to the simplicity of 1 and Michael as the shape and not big brother, you gotta let 2 go. And I’m sure with Carpenter on as a producer and consultant, he wouldn’t have wanted the brother/sister angle and it would’ve been a non starter for him
IT IS WHAT IT IS, JOHN CARPENTER WANTED IT THIS WAY, BUT THAT DOESNT MEAN IT COULDNT HAVE BEEN DONE ANOTHER WAY - AT THE END OF THE DAY, THIS MOVIE WAS COOL, BUT NOWHERE CLOSE TO THE CLASSICS (1 AND 2) .. THIS ONE IS MORE COMPARABLE TO H20 IMO.
For me it’s right under 1. But again it’s what I want in my Halloween movies. Like damn near exactly what I want and what I’d like going forward so yeah. It hits my sweet spot
SO U PUT THIS ABOVE 2? THATS CRAZY TO ME
