Both are works of art at the end of the day. BOAN is not 100% factual, hence “based on”No, BOAN is based on a real life hero. Hollywood sabotaged the film on purpose because of that, but they don't mind black people worshipping a fictional hero.
At the end of the day, BOAN is another slave movie. People keep talking about BP and black people’s obsesssion with “symbolism”, without mentioning that a lot of people were banking on symbolism in BOAN to galvanize black people the same way they say BP can’t.
At the end of the day, modern day AA’s can’t 100% relate to ANY movie about slavery. That’s not something we go though. At best, you’re hoping we can identify with what our ancestors went through for us and make changes in our lives.
bP’s messages about oppression, white peoples hoarding of resources, drugs investing our neighborhoods, the chaotic relationship between the diaspora and Those back home, the anger modern AA’s feel toward White people, the superiority complex some Africans have with AA’s treating us like outsiders, the longing for a home and history that AA’s have, all things that modern day AA’s can relate to.
Grateful for what NT actually did, but as far as movies go, not close.
