there is no way this record smashing early voting is going for trump...trump approval rating never made it to 50%...i dont see how trump will get over with his shytty approval and no lock her up chant and no empty promises to trick gullible losers into believing...

here is nate silver teaching the GMA audience to use poll leads to predict hillary as the winner

even then he still pointed out that they were at halftime and there is still a lot of time left before the election. he isnt saying “clinton is going to win”, he is saying “based on the polling information and historical context clinton has a 75-80 percent chance to win”

he also brought up that dukakis blew a similar lead in 1988, an election most viewers will probably remember. so it tells the audience “even though it isnt looking good for trump right now, candidates have pulled it off before”

The idea that the polls, which were re-weighed after 2016 to account for non-college whites, will be wrong again to such a colossal level that Trump sneaks in another win is laughable to me. I could be wrong, but I'm sorry...everything shaked out perfect for him, down to the very final percentage point in 2016. The idea that it would happen again, or that he could somehow win by a bigger margin...nah.

He literally has to win damn near every battleground state to pull this off, mind you.

the stated problem was the media interpretation. i dont see anything he is doing in that clip as different than what the media does with polling.

this is my feeling as well. i think things are fundamentally different this time around. trump is no longer merely a possibility - this is now a referendum on him and he failed the covid test miserably and suburbanites dont want anymore riots

hes also simplifying the approach to fit a small two-minute time slot on GMA so it does resemble normal media coverage moreso than something like the posts on 538s website.

an example of my issues with media coverage could be something like this article:

Biden's national lead over Trump jumps to 14 points after debate in new NBC News/WSJ poll

doesn’t really go into sample sizes of polls, margin of error, etc.

now the link is there so you can always click on it. but a journalist has to assume their readers will just read what is in front of them, and should still put it in the article itself
