I’m a white guy and yes, it’s flagrantly obvious. It’s been apparent since the season 1 dinner party. I feel like you have to be a special kind of tone deaf to not pick that up.

if Earn doubles down on his simping and wifes her up it will be an ultimate kick in the face to all of the progress he’s made in his life.

her inability to level up isn’t his burden especially when she’s going out of her way to be utterly useless. At least Sock’s phone thieving ass has proven his worth on some level. Van can’t even be a weed carrier on the Paper Boi express.

But at least she knows to stay the fukk away. Down side to it is that even her own damn parents have no idea where she is at any given time

It's still a solid show, but after awhile you can only beat a dead horse for so long it gets stale.

The cacs come out looking like complete garbage in damn near every episode this season. Season 3 has been meaner to white people more than any project Donald Glover has ever been apart of In my opinion. The show is still written by black people and about black characters. So agree to disagree I guess.

Bro I've been on the Coli since the SOHH days. I joined when I was 14, back in 2008.

Honestly I'm pretty much just a regular in The Arcadium and Film Room, I lightly post in The Coli and the Booth sometimes. I have no idea what the "vac movement" is. "CAC" is pretty funny, I don't take offense

I don’t think she’s jealous of Earn’s success. Remember even though at the end of season 2 they were on their way to Europe, season 3 is NOT picking up right where we left off. Timeline wise its been at least a year between the events of season 2 and the beginning of season 3.


We know this…

Earn says in episode 2 that this is not Paperboi’s first time in Amsterdam. He specifically says that they played a smaller concert there “last year” so Vanessa has had at least a year to get used to Earn being successful and responsible. If she was jealous and holding in a YEAR’S worth of resentment I think she’d be showing more animosity towards Earn instead the relative apathy she’s presented towards pretty much everyone.


I think if Van has an issue its that


1). She hasn’t found HER purpose. And by being near and around someone like Earn, who was once purposeless himself, I think she feels like she herself will find that piece of herself, that hidden talent, that unearthed potential, that dormant specialness, that will turn help complete HER


2). She’s upset that Earn’s success took him away from her. Remember in season 1 he was always around. He was telling her he loved her. Taking her out to dinner. Etc. then season 2 comes around and he’s less concerned with her romantically. Telling her that is work “pays her fukking bills” and then they break up for good.
Now here we are in season 3, a year later and he’s all the way in another country. Not only succeeding but THRIVING. Gone is the guy who NEEDED to crash at her house because he had nowhere else to go. Gone is the guy who couldn’t bail himself out jail. Gone is the guy who was sleeping in storage units. But also gone is that guy PHYSICALLY, and just like Earn was co-dependent on Van at one point, Van was just as co-dependent on Earn. She loves Earn. And she’s trying to reconcile a reality where his love for her is based off NOT needing her. So like any co-dependent person what did she do? Fly out to Europe EXACTLY where that person is to “figure herself out” but also to figure HIM out too. Think about the previous episodes she’s appeared in. She’s stayed at the same hotels as Earn. She’s accompanied Earn to parties. She’s made sure that, even though she’s not all up in his space, she’s also not too far away either. She’s never treated him unkindly, offering advice and a helping hand when needed. That “thumbs up” text annoyed him, but she responded to his agitation and his concern with what? PHYSICAL INTIMACY. Vanessa LIKES what he’s become, because he’s essentially morphed into the version of himself that he faked in season 1’s penultimate episode “Juneteenth”. She simply wants to become that version of herself too, because THAT version in her mind is walking hand in hand with him.

Good analysis. But this video is SPOT ON about Earn & Van's relationship which makes the MOST SENSE as to why Van is behaving the way she's behaving to Earn. Long story short, it's simply PAYBACK at how she was treated by Earn in the first two seasons. Now Earn is feeling how she was feeling the whole time in the beginning. And Van today give ZERO fukkS about it. Fucck yo feelings. She's doing her.
