I don't recall ANYONE shytting on GotG after the 1st trailer. Most thought since it's based off an obscure comic book that it's not going to appeal for everyone. It WAS in fact the trailers that gave it a buzz and helped earned that huge weekend debut gross.
Ant-Man on the other hand has NOTHING appealing and even the trailers suffers as to what it wants to be. The only saving grace as to why ANYONE would be interested in this movie is to see how it's going to fit with the rest of the MCU story. Had it not be for that, no one can give two fukks about a damn Ant-Man.
No one was asking to see any of the characters they've made movies on that's why they were stuck in development until Marvel came along why do you think these movies are in a connected universe in the first place?. First two trailers for Guardians were rubbish and did nothing but increase the line of thought that the film would flop and be unsuccessful. The concept of the character/movie is no dumber than Thor, a character who wields a magic hammer and travels through a rainbow bridge.
No wonder Edgar Wright got kicked off the project. He didn't want to make a strong connection to the rest of the MCU. Seems it is the film's saving grace.
Starting to think Civil War caused the split. Ant-Man was supposed to be a standalone and one-off story with Scott Lang. The only characters that were going to be taken from it into Avengers movies, were Pym and Wasp. Wasp was already in drafts and storyboards and they used a stand-in for Pym. It kept getting delayed. Civil War was in the plans and eventually got given the greenlight. They wanted Scott Lang in it, Wright didn't, he leaves. They then make it a full-on bridge to Civil War which is the movie that follows this one.
