Soundscan can track sales from any merchant (even from an artists site) as long as there is a point of sale (so there is proof of the sale).

When chamillionaire sold his ep "reignfall" directly from his site he sold 1,473 on his own from people ordering from his site. Soundscan recorded the sales. They will be able to do the same for the small amount 50 sells from his site
