Track where NXT sells the most tickets on tours and do TV there. They do a lot of smaller but unique venues that Raw/SD will never, ever run TV at because they aren't NBA/college arenas. AEW does not need to run 20k seaters weekly just to make sure everyone knows they're big time.

26 is a lot.

Off the top of my head, these could be smark cities:
  • Montreal
  • Winnipeg
  • Calgary
  • Toronto
  • Vancouver
  • New York
  • Chicago
  • Philadelphia
  • Baltimore
  • DC
  • Los Angeles
  • Orlando

They're definitely going to run Jacksonville 2-3 times a year, since they own that building. They're definitely going to run a couple of shows in the UK since they have a TV deal with ITV. I would be surprised if they don't have a show in Atlanta this year with Turner being in Atlanta and the history of WCW there.

I think they're just gonna run smaller buildings. There's no way they'll draw 10000-20000 people week to week when the novelty of being a new promotion wears off.

But right now, they should run shows in smaller buildings, run shows in "smark cities" and under served markets with strong indy attendances. Maybe bring in some local ticket sellers to sell some tickets.

Including Jacksonville and Atlanta, that gives your list 14 locations. Can also throw in Boston, Dallas, Houston, Bay Area, and Mexico City (they have a partnership with AAA so they could theoretically have a couple shows in Mexico). Sprinkle in a couple European shows and possibly one in Japan and you get 26 or more.

I don't think they should start off with 20,000 seat venues. I think it's fine for the first show in DC and maybe some of the big smark cities but like was said they gotta produce 52 shows a year so I think for smaller cities they should do those 5000 seat arenas like they did for the benefit show and the building looked cool too it didn't look low rent at all.. :manny:

Meltzer made it seem like their going to run places that did good for ROH when those guys were there. Which is honestly pretty hilarious.

Meltzer also tried to lower expectations as much as possible, which is also hilarious, since he's the same guy claiming they had more demand for DON tickets than Manias have.

Dave a few months ago: AEW easily could have sold out Soldier Field

Dave now: Don't expect them to do any better than WWE does in arenas these days

Not sure if this has been mentioned already but they apparently picked DC because the DMV was one of their best PPV markets from Double Or Nothing. So there is some strategy going on here.

Hope they run the Greensboro Colosseum and Norfolk Scope with somewhat regularity :banderas:

They should run a lot of college venues where they can modify the attendance to between 5K and 10K. Save the NBA arenas for PPVs and maybe even BR Live specials.

Yeah TNA actually had a really good formula for their TV tapings in 2013, going on the road failed but they did go to decent sized venues and not huge arenas but it was enough to make them at least look legit. I just hope AEW stays where the demand is high, at least for now, going to places like Birmingham, Alabama or Little Rock, Arkansas would be a mistake. Now I think what they should do is do shows at the beaches of Florida during March, attract some younger fans.

Looks like publicity shots for a new drama coming to The CW this fall. :wow:
Well I heard a rumor that CW trying to reboot Gossip Girl :jbhmm: Cody with all his chopper suits and sneak disses could easily play the role of Chuck Bass

Jacksonville

Every one of those places will easily be packed houses if AEW shows up and delivers a good show :yeshrug:
All of those smark cities get visited by other promotions and they need venues for ppvs . Also the garden is expensive as hell to run And Barclays gets lots of events a year .

The core of the fanbase will still flu in for big events but with 52 tv tapings a year they obviously won't. Now even Raw and Smackdown sell 5-10k nowadays for the weekly tapings so I see AEW targeting 5k as a conservative and smart start.

Going for 20k weekly is straight delusion at this point, no promotion can pull it off
