why the fukk would Melo even want to go to Portland? They're not even considerably better than the Spurs with him there. I was thinking this over at work and even tho its not similar rosters, that would basically end up with a ceiling of his former Nuggets.

Their ceiling would be the same as the Rockets: WCF.

That paired with his athleticism. He's going to really struggle on defense, I don't know if his scoring will translate either, the way he gets buckets won't work. Unless he's a 40% 3pt shooter then what is he good for?

I think you're really under rating his overall game. He legit played the 1 through the 5 and ran the offense. He can create and hit open shots. (At a good bench player rate imo, i dont think he's a star)

I know his d wasn't great but I've seen him guard very well on switches both ways (guards and bigs) at times in college and in international play. I think his athleticism is better than you think, he can move well laterally.
