The Bruised Ego of Dumb B*tches
I felt like throwing a glass at the wall or something when i heard that Dirty Projectors album. That first album was so damn good. Folks, if you can take going completely mental for a while go see a crystal castles show. I saw that years ago and to this day it was the best fukking show ever. Not really liking that single and i agree it sounds off but that might be that guy ethan just fukking around on purpose.

What's crazy to me, and this might be a venue thing, but if you go to a crystal castles how and stand in one area of the room, and then in another... it sounds so fukking different. It's crazy.

New Bat for Lashes for nikkas who up on her. Pretty standard piano ballad with her good voice and very memorable chorus. I can see the album being nice if she keeps it this solid throughout. I only like about half of two suns.

I love Bat For Lashes. Excited to see a new album from her.

Anyone heard the new Arctic Monkeys album or single from this year? Love those guys but havent kept up with them. Saw they had a single out somewhere was just wondering.

-Even though I've repeatedly slagged it around here, I was actually cool with the direction that the Dirty Projectors were going in with Bitte Orca. It's just that Longstreth isn't the composer that he thinks he is, so it turns out to be a cluttered mess quite a bit of the time. But then he decided to strip it back for Swing Lo Magellan, and it somehow turned out worse and far more boring. Geez.

-Is a Crystal Castles show better than A Place To Bury Strangers' show? Hopefully I get to see in the near future. And that audio thing is almost assuredly bad acoustics or a shytty setup. That really shouldn't be happening.

-This Bat For Lashes single isn't helping the Kate Bush comparisons, nor does it feel like it's going to wash the bad taste of Two Suns out of my mouth. Which is annoying, since I really liked Fur and Gold.

-Nothing on the Arctic Monkeys front since their Record Store Day single. You might hear something around this time next year, since they're supposed to be recording for the new album now.

My favourite band :wow:

Supposed to be back in the studio this summer working on the 5th album, looking at a release next year. If it sounds like 'R U Mine?' then it should be :whoo:

They did their thing at the Olympic Ceremony, great cover of Come Together.

Not really 2012 (well, kind of) but the Blur 21 Boxset is absolutely incredible. Reminds me why they're one of my favourite bands of all time.

Tempted to get it, even at £120 (roughly).

Mildly shocked nobody's posted this:

The Good: It's more my style than Merriweather Post Pavillion ever was (but so was Fall Be Kind...)

The Bad (A misnomer, but...): This ain't touching, well, a lot of what was on Merriweather Post Pavillion. Or Fall Be Kind. Or Noah Lennox's last 2 solo albums. Or a lot of shyt for that matter. It's good, but not great at all.

With even great bands like Animal Collective only putting out "good" stuff, is it any wonder that I've been listening to The Money Store (still untouched this year) and My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts on repeat in lieu of actually writing (for this site)? Clem might have been right about this year in music.

Just listened to the new XX song. Did these guys just record the exact same album all over again? No longer even excited to hear it, really.

I didn't post it because I don't feel like it is a "single" song, despite being released as a single. It is an album track for sure, and should sound better to you in the full context of the recording.

Personally, I was so-so on it when I first heard it, but after a few listens the chaos begins to take shape and it is easier to pick out everything that is going on and it becomes quite a bit better. I have been listening to it multiple times daily since it came out and it continues to get better. Very little music has longevity like that.

In particular, the section where he is singing "have you seen the clouds..met you in baltimore" is mind bogglingly good. Panda Bear's ooh-ooh-ohh harmonies in the background are beautiful and easy to miss, and his spactic drumming sounds incredible once you can hear it through the wall of noise.

I will warn you though...if after 5-10 listens you still don't like the song, you might have a rough time with the whole album. While not all of it is quite this chaotic, it does have this intergalactic circus vibe going on.

I'm actually more interested in the direction of this record than I ever was when I listened to "My Girls," even though that was the superior song. I just thought the song was merely "good". You're right about it sounding more like an album cut though. But when separating the quality of the song from the direction, I'm very excited to hear the album.

As for "Chained"...I adored it and, at least to me, it seems like they are progressing their sound like they said they would. Partially because Baria Qureshi isn't playing guitar for them anymore and it shows in the lack of guitar lines in some of these songs (which were sparse to begin with) and partially because that's been replaced with more of an influence from Jamie Smith's solo work, as well as some of the dance music influences that they said were going to be there. I wouldn't say that it's completely different from the self-titled, but calling it the same exact album with the 3 songs that we've heard is a bit much.

I have other thoughts on it, but they're more appropriately left for whenever I get around to reviewing the full album (which will be whenever my moving pains are over...)
