Just finished listenings to Fiona new album. It doesn't disappoint. You can tell she did this album without any record label interference because, it sounds unpolished and raw.

This is the entire album name The Idler Wheel Is Wiser than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More than Ropes Will Ever Do
:krs:

She's still the illest white girl around.

I saw that this got a 9.0 on Pitchfork and prepared myself for the letdown.

I'm 5 songs in at work and it sounds amazing so far. Just great, great stuff.

Also, someone needs to give whoever engineered this a nice, firm handshake. Everything is clear and where it needs to be in the mix, and nothing overpowers anything unnecessarily (and, yes, it still sounds raw and unmediated throughout, like you said). People seriously underrate how much good sound engineering and production means to records and the affect of the songs; this album (so far) is a perfect example of how necessary this is.

her second cd had an even longer title

When the Pawn Hits the Conflicts He Thinks Like a King What He Knows Throws the Blows When He Goes to the Fight and He'll Win the Whole Thing 'Fore He Enters the Ring There's No Body to Batter When Your Mind Is Your Might So When You Go Solo, You Hold Your Own Hand and Remember That Depth Is the Greatest of Heights and If You Know Where You Stand, Then You Know Where to Land and If You Fall It Won't Matter, Cuz You'll Know That You're Right

2 More Things:

1). Finished the Fiona album. Get it now, it's incredible. Officially in the review backlog.

2). Speaking of female singer-songwriters that like to stay out of the spotlight for extended stretches:

That rhythm section wasn't expected at all. Still, it's intriguing...

New album Sun out on September 4.

Edit: And to answer your question, Zeus, I don't really compare Fiona and Polly Jean at all, since I don't see them really making the same type of music (and PJ's one real foray into Piano based music, White Chalk, didn't interest me at all, so point for Fiona, I guess). As for Fiona and Tori? I just find what Fiona does with a piano and the way that she uses it in a song more interesting than what Tori does with it. I also like Fiona's voice better. She just resonates more with me, that's all.

This came out in 2011, but I'm listening to Galactic Melt by Com Truise on Spotify right now. I liked the "Brokendate" song from the Toonami promo last Saturday and decided to check him out. It's pretty cool, but it gets a little repetitive at points. It kind of reminds me of Washed Out.
