The vote on the so-called Manchin-Toomey amendment was 54 in favor, 46 against — failing to reach the 60-vote threshold needed to move ahead. Four Republicans supported it, and four Democrats voted no.

A controversial Democratic plan to ban dozens of military-style assault weapons was also defeated by a vote of 40 to 60.

Normally I'd agree with this, but the Repubs wouldn't be able to pull this shyt without cover from the Democrats. They vote as a block. Dems ALWAYS get split up by Blue State Democrats and then Harry 'Double Agent' Reid gives them cover.

I hate when people try to talk down on people and don't even have a basic understanding of the issues. The assault weapons ban wasn't even in the bill. It was a separate amendment that lost 40 to 60. The two things aren't even related. Bottom line is that like for all of the last 4 years Blue Dog Democrats and Republicans bytched out and went against what the majority of the country wanted.

Then lets take away all the restrictions and background checks. I think it would be cool if I could own a rocket launcher. The government shouldn't know what kind or gun I want to purchase and who I am. I should have the right to privacy

Sandy Hook tragedies aren't the only way people die from guns goofball.

It was stupid to bundle the assault weapon bans with the background checks but that doesnt make the background checks a bad idea. Look how easy it is for anyone, including felons and fugitives to buy guns online
