The demo breakdowns say otherwise. The nxt audience is much older than the aew audience. They aren't appealing to the same audience except when there is something heavily hyped that will usually draw from each others audience.

the bolded tells it all. AEW viewers obviously have eyes on NXT's product if they know beforehand that an NXT show is supposed to be good. thats when the ratings are closer - or NXT might even pull out a win. if NXT didnt appeal to the AEW audience, this wouldnt happen. AEW fans watch both shows. difference is, NXT just isnt as good, plus its more accessible. you could easily just watch it the next day. thats exactly what most people do. they watch AEW live, then check out NXT the next day. the demo numbers(which arent even based on accurracy) dont tell you all that.

they pull talent directly from the same pools. the champions from both shows are from the same stable for pete's sake. NXT was geared towards AEW viewers, long before AEW even existed. thats why i always say, AEW would be doing over a mil easily if they went up against raw or smackdown.

AEW has had now two shows of ratings being notably up. What if they make it 3 weeks in a row? NXT ratings are down for the show after war games because the audience didn’t give a flying fukk who won or lost those matches. There were no stakes, nothing was on the line, the teams were thrown together, the promotion was built around Pat McAfee for a month who now vanished without a trace. AEW has stakes to their matches and has VERY selectively utilized rematches. Also NXT Super Tuesday did 848k & 838k, how many cable shows does markedly better when they go on another night? It’s common sense. I think you have it in your mind that AEW fans want NXT to move nights to boost AEW numbers, when actually, NXT moving to another night would save NXT from the inevitable.

AEW are in danger of repeating TNA's mistakes with nostalgia. They had the Sting surprise and follow up were expected to go up. Novelty acts and Nostalgia have shelf lives. In the last week, the highest rated segments were with Sting and Shaq. The test for them is getting the lapsed fans and curious casuals to tune in for the regulars.

NXT has problems especially with booking babyfaces and babyfaces in general. They make the heels too cool which hurts the faces.

Covid outbreaks at every venue they run has affected their booking. They have hesitated to write much long-term because of this. This is likely why they relied on Mcafee/Undisputed Era too much.

Post takeover shows have been filler for a while. They have phoned them in since the Dusty era. I get wanting the empire to fall, but even NXT diehards from the beginning hate the post- takeover episode.

Both Super Tuesday shows were hyped up as a big deal and advertised in advance. They would go down if they were on Tuesday every week.

NXT isn't going to fully go under. They will likely go back to the network at worst.

One thing that kind of confuses me with the demos being what they are is how AEW is has such a hard on for WCW/JCP nostalgia but the biggest group watching the show weren't even alive for JCP and were young kids when WCW went under.

Tony, Kenny, the Bucks and Cody all seem to be content with using their childhood memories as a launching pad for booking. Good tag matches, feuds played out and slow burned, nostalgia to get over the current roster and humor for those fans that like that. The difference between them booking for their own self interests and Vince booking his is that Vince books his shows to remind you that you are an idiot and you like what we tell you.

AEW could very well fall into that mindset if they arent careful especially with early success like this but it seems far less likely given how much fan service they do.

That's not surprising. There are kids who are now saying "fukk this new shyt" and listening to Pac and Biggie or Nas, Mobb Deep, etc.. everything is accessible. People realize wrestling was once "better" than it is now and they can see that just by browsing YouTube.

Plus, AEW isn't nostalgia based... that's a part of it but they mix the new talent with the old talent.

Also, @Wacky D the ratings are likely very accurate. It doesn't take many households to have a box to get an accurate depiction. That's how statistics work.

how do they come up with these stats tho?? serious question.

a selective few households?? and even then, is the 45 year old who pays the bills actually the one watching NXT?? or is it really his 15 year old son??

not arguing. just curious.

not really.

that chit is FAR FAR from the norm.

It's over 100,000 households at least which is more than enough to come within 90%+ accuracy or what have you far as the total viewers go...

As for the demographics, they keep track of what everyone in the house is watching. They tried to get me to sign up before but I didn't want to bother. They wanted me to do surveys and shyt

Even though raw wasn't terrible . It just feels very tiresome watching 3 hours of predictable programming

I tapped out after the 2nd hour:francis:
