Just went back and forth with this guy on Twitter. The figure he was using to say the Yeezys flopped was an overall sales loss by Adidas of 6%. But Taylor Made, their golf brand, and Reebok (subsidiary) took a 28% combined loss and caused most of the Adidas' revenue loss. Not the Yeezy Boosts. Adidas' Brand's total sales were actually up 11%.

I'm just talking about myself. Personally I think worrying this much about shoes is kinda gay

Yeah I feel you, but it seems to be Kanye's passion. I thought he ought to devote more energy to something that matters. I'd rather get into technology than fashion :camby:

Im a Ye Stan…but that Powell cat was spitting facts.

I study marketing…and you see shyt like that all over the place.
These companies spend millions of dollars on these high priced commercials, and don't ever see the return…the advertising firms tell them it will payoff in "branding"…but they never see the money.

Think of it like this….Budweiser has great commercials every year at the Super Bowl…
…but do you people who don't drink Bud start drinking it because of the commercials?
Of course not.

Most advertising is bad…artsy, pretty…but bad.
The main objective is to get people to go buy more product…its not about being a fukkin museum exhibit.

Ye's had more value in the sneaker world.

50 Cent was just a money grab.

Kanye changed the profile of sneakers

Mind you, he's one of the first NON-athletes to get a shoe and to make it something that was radically different from what was out there with his own profile.

DUde dide shyt with Louis V which is STILL coveted to this day. Same with Nike and now Adidas.

Did 50 move more shoes? Yeah. 50s shoes were cheaper.

But this is like the album sales argument. Brittany Spears sold millions. Does that make her the better artist?
Everything you brought up had nothing to do with my argument.

Adidas did a limited release which was successful at achieving the objectives of that release. Kanye himself in the same interview you referenced said that it will take some time for him and Adidas to establish good communication and negotiating to get a good working relationship going.

The objective of their next shoe release could be entirely different. This shoe could have been something of a demo for upper management to see if he could move luxury shoes at a high price point. We, nor this writer know the inner workings of what is going on in those meetings. This is no different than an artist development process.

50 got one shoe because he couldn't design shoes. I realize you think Kanye is all hype but what do you call 50 cent in 2005? Was he not at the peak of his hype then? Ye could make multiple shoes that in the end will gross more than 50's shoe did. Are they dropping Ye from his contract? No.

He offered no solutions, he only said why he thought they should give up. Do you think giving up is a good marketing strategy? FOH
LOL. The guy says all the shoes were sold at TJ Maxx, known ghetto retailer that sells discounted items to cheap ass people and the Curly stans are hi fiving each other like 'Yea we finally got a Curly win over Kanye after all this time!'

Kanye doesn't want his shoes to be sold at TJ Maxx\ because thats bottom of the barrell, ghetto. Just like the entire g-unit clothing line.

what y'all fail to realize... YOU'RE MAKING HIS fukkING POINT!!!!!!!!!

he did NOT say.... kanye has ugly shoes

he did NOT say... kanye couldn't sell more

he did NOT say... 50 had better shoes, ideas, etc

what he said was fukk THE HYPE... THIS IS ABOUT BUSINESS

yes all Ye's exclusive shyt is high priced, well received, and does great things... BUT IS IT MAKING THE COMPANY ANY MONEY THO??? DID IT MAKE MORE MONEY THAN 50 CENT??

yes kendrick is a better artist than mc hammer.... but if i own a BUSINESS... would i rather sell 10 million or 350k????

and just like twitter... every argument y'all bring up, is about fashion and what COULD be done IF adidas let him.

dude is simply talking numbers and business

why does this speak so sharply to me.... i own a clothing line.. everyday you have to balance between what's hot... and what makes money

all these new urban lines that come out.... hot

fubu... played out

yet fubu made a couple hundred million last year while urban brands still going out of business every 3 years

AND you're wrong... kanye himself has said "I DID NOT WANT MY SHOES PRICED HIGH...I DID NOT WANT EXCLUSIVE RELEASES... I WANTED TO SELL THEM IN EVERY STORE"

Adidas wouldn't LET him... so trust... kanye was looking for the big money maker too.. he wanted to prove he can do a large scale release and neither nike nor adidas had any interest in doing that

if he was ABLE to make them 5-10 million... you think they'd have said "nah fukk that man.. lets just do this 10k"

b-b-b-b-b-but kanye wants to be exclusive... he could sell more shoes

Specifically, Kanye was asked why the sneakers cost $350. It’s a pretty odd price point when you think about it, and Kanye and adidas could have picked just about any price point that they wanted. So he was asked why he eventually settled on that one. And he responded by revealing that he didn’t have anything to do with making the sneakers $350. But that’s not the only thing he didn’t have any control over. He also said that he didn’t want the sneaker to be super limited. But adidas did, which was why there were only 9,000 pairs of the Yeezy Boosts released at first.

“I don’t want them to be limited, actually, that’s something that the company did,” he said. “I really want as many people to get them as possible. I didn’t want the price to be $350. I don’t want to play this sneaker culture game and all this, so they be reselling them for high prices and stuff. I just want people to have what I make.”

You literally typed all that up for nothing.

The point I was making is that it sold more because it was discounted in a national chain.

That's like saying Mcdonalds is the best burger spot because they sell the most.
