Baseball isn't the only sport stuck in the past.

I see better plays than "the catch" in NFL weekly.

:snoop:

the catch was a game-winning play in a nfc championship game against the heated rivals

I don't care about that. That's the type of thinking that says Tebow's OT TD pass was a better play than Marshawn Lynch running through the Eagles defense last year because of when it happened.

Me and the OP are clearly talking about degree of difficulty.

the catch is known as much (if not more) for its significance as it is for difficulty.

no one out there saying it was the toughest catch of all time or anything.

I think the line of thinking is that will these plays ever be pushed off the GOAT lists?

If they made a top ten catches list today then that should be pushed off by now. I'm sure there are 10 catches more significant than that since it happened.

Vernon Davis last year and TO when he :to: come to mind immediately.

Significant or not, that catch Antonio Freeman made on MNF > "the catch"

smh you STILL act like these plays are the goat because of sheer ahtletic display ?

those werent in conference championships. and the degree of difficulty on the throw by young and smith were NOT comparable at all to what montana has done.

the CATCH is famous because of the whole play, not because of the dwight clark catch.

the fact that I have to explain this to you makes me think youre thinking about it from athleticism standpoint.

the catch is a fukking world-known football PLAY. only select few remember a random great catch by freeman in a random mnf game

World?

People in Belgium know about the catch? :leostare:

It's well known because it's been force fed to us for 25 years.

Just because it was great when it happened doesn't mean it deserves a spot on top 10 lists for eternity.

i'm beginning to think most of the people on this site no jack shyt about sports. part of the criteria for what makes a play great or special is not only the athletic ability needed to pull it off, but also the impact the play had on the game, as well as its lasting impact on history. dwight clarks' catch not only was the deciding score that sent the 49ers to the super bowl, it began their dynasty of the '80s, and ended the cowboys' dominance of the NFC which had existed since the early '70s. the antonio freeman catch will never be mentioned alongside dwight clark's because it was a catch made on a monday night in the middle of the season for a team that didn't even make the fukkin playoffs.

:usure:

but the catch itself was more impressive. just look at things for what they are every once in awhile.

is tebow's OT TD pass more impressive than Marshawn Lynch running through the entire Philadelphia defense for a TD?

For the record....you can't even begin to scratch the surface of my sports knowledge.

Mays was playing shallow center...ran to about 420+ out... only Minute Maid is that deep...and threw somebody out.

You can't name any player who's done that.

Not that I disagree at all. But let's not forget this WS play...
