Real talk, I'm kinda worried about the team going into the season.
All this talk of "raggedy" practice sessions, and the WR corps that are on struggle status (with the exception of Boldin) have me wondering how/if they will get their shyt together.

Imma try and be positive, but I expect excellence from this team.

eh practices are practices

with that said, its alarming that they STILL have snap problems. after last year I thought goodwin and kaep would work 50 times a day on snaps.

botched snaps and poor play clock management really have no excuses in pro football, and these things should have been emphasized, imo.

Im not as worried about WRs because this offense can function without them, just off oline, rbs, tes and qb

once we get KW back things will get better and Mario and Patton will add to it. Moore has experience so he'll be a body.

Im less concerned about superbowl hangover, to me thats a totally contrived idea
people have said before that we werent making it to NFC champs game again last year, and look what happened

what concerns me most about the offense is that its effective sporadically, but not like a well-oiled machine. when they execute, offense looks like a top 3-5 offense. but they arent effective enough like, say, pats are. when pats offense struggles, its usually due to defenses.
when our offense struggles, its usually because we fukk up in execution (not that we dont struggle against good defenses for a good reason). drops, bad routes, bad snaps, bad clock management, etc.

we couldnt score on cards, falcons, ravens - teams that have decent but nothing special defenses, and then scoring came in batches.

coaches need to step up a bit and realize just utilizing players talents will only take the team so far. this applies even more to fangio. we have some crazy athletic players on a 3-4 D, utilize them more instead of taking vanilla no-blitz approach every time and only make adjustments when youre behind 14+ points. this D has some amazing players but when its so predictable, even these players will get beat

Apparently, Sunday's practice was of the best, so practice is practice

Colin Kaepernick put on an absolute clinic at Sunday’s training camp session.

The third-year quarterback demonstrated his big-time throwing arm and then used his quick feet and long running strides to create more time to record back-to-back touchdown throws in the red zone.

It was the most accurate practice of Kaepernick’s camp and it continued to prove that San Francisco's quarterback has built trust in his tight end, Vernon Davis.

Kaepernick connected with Davis on a 60-yard touchdown in the opening team period of practice. An hour later, the two hooked up on several more deep throws.

Kaepernick rifled one ball to Davis from 40 yards out. The 49ers tight end displayed world-class hands to snatch the ball out of the air. Kaepernick also lofted a corner route in between Carlos Rogers andCraig Dahl’s tight coverage on Davis.

In the red zone, the 49ers quarterback flashed his improvisational skills. In one instance, Kaepernick rolled to his right, escaped pressure and darted a pass to Frank Gore, who sprawled out to make a diving reception in the right corner of the end zone.

On the very next play, Kaepernick bounced out of the pocket, ran to his left and flipped a short pass to Gore, who had an easy lane into the end zone.

Not to be forgotten, Kaepernick had a solid day completing passes to his receivers. Kaepernick had a high completion percentage on the day, he hit several intermediate passes. Anquan Boldin,Kyle Williams and Marlon Mooreall had receptions from Kaepernick.

Bruce Miller and Garrett Celekalso caught deep balls from the 49ers quarterback.

Training Camp Notes

-Rookie tight end Vance McDonald missed his first practice of camp. Joe Staley, Tarell Brown and Jewell Hampton also took the session off due to undisclosed injuries.

-Colt McCoy did not wear the non-contact jersey after wearing one on Saturday. The fourth-year quarterback took part in all periods of practice and completed the only reception of the day to A.J. Jenkins.

-Eric Reid and Dahl split reps with the first-team defense. Nnamdi Asomugha lined up at right cornerback in place of Brown.

-NaVorro Bowman was a one-man wrecking crew in a period against the scout-team offense. First, the All-Pro inside linebacker lowered a thundering hit on rookie running back D.J. Harper. Next, Bowman chased down Harper on the very next play for a tackle-for-loss around the right edge of the line. To close out the period, Bowman dropped back into coverage and made a one-handed interception on a Scott Tolzien pass.

-Undrafted rookie cornerback Daryl Morris recorded an interception on a B.J. Daniels pass in a nickel defense period.

-Austin Collie made a pair of tough catches. One was a high pass from Daniels, the other was on a low pass from McCoy.

Safties

Donte Whitner - B+

I think he is still a very good safety. While he can't cover very well, his athleticism and experience make him a very solid safety. He hits like a freight train, but he is a liability in coverage. I think this is likely his last season with us, as I think we will look to upgrade or perhaps draft a better cover safety next year. Still he is arguably the best safety on the team.

Craig Dahl - C

Dude is a road grade safety. He won't set the world on fire, but I think he is an experienced player that should start the first few games as Eric Reid is ultimately groomed into that position.

Eric Reid - B

After watching the preseason game, this kids fierceness and hunger are apparent. He has a tendency to over pursue but if he can reign it in a bit and improve his instincts, we could have an elite player in a few years.

CJ Spillman - C-

He is a very good special teams player, but I wouldn't want him on the field on defense. But he does provide some depth.

Michael Thomas - D-

A practice squad body, little more

Darcel McBath.- C-

He is a very good special teams player, and I think he is improving to a good depth safety. I actually would like him on the team long term.

Raymond Vetrone - F

He is a camp body, I don't expect him be here past camp.

Trenton Robinson - F

This guy is turning out to be a bust, he is short, can't really cover and we have more experienced safeties on our squad, I just don't see a spot for dude on the team.

Synopsis: I am concerned about safety more than cornerback. They are the last line of defense and outside of Whitner, we don't have an entrenched starter. If our pass rush isn't immaculate. This unit will struggle and we will have to outscore, high powered offenses.

Special Teams

Phil Dawson - B

I think he is a solid kicker, but I also don't think he will be effective for more than a year or two. He is an upgrade from 2012 David Akers but we need to score 7 points this year, not 3. So his role is less crucial

Andy Lee - A+

Best punter in the league. Master of the coffin corner punt.

Colton Schmidt - C

I guess this is Andy Lee's student.

Synopsis: We have a very good special teams unit. We have solid veterans as kickers and young hungry gunners and return specialists. Plus we have Brad Seely as our ST coach. All in all we have a top 10 unit, maybe even top 5.

Jenkins held without a catch in practice :beli:

this guy is being given every chance in the world and...well....he actually might be cut after this season if we're really a merit-based team

His only saving grace is how thin we are at WR now, which is rather sad.

Jenkins :beli:Bad pick by Trent the Gawd. How you not come to training camp when you know we down a starting receiver and you don't show ANY progress or spark to take the spot.:childplease:

In all reality the 2012 draft in general is looking very bust like outside of LaMichael James and Joe Looney.
