What are you talking about?? Tatum and Brown (Tatum especially) were hyped to the moon, particularly by Boston media and Celtics fans, which have a big presence in the league. That's why they're held at this standard now that they're out there playing as a mediocre team.

Yeah because the others players weren’t/don’t get hyped to the moon by their respective fanbases either :skip:

And their peers that were also high draft picks, making all-star teams, getting big contracts, get a fraction of the critique. When are we gonna start getting discussions about whether their teams have peaked?

Have you considered the (real) possibility that you're just biased and sensitive?

It’s possible I’m biased due to being a Celtics fan. And it’s also possible that criticism towards Tatum/Brown or the Celtics in general is disproportionate because people hate the team/the city.

Boston is in that fukked up position. When you have a young star core you need to load up before their big contracts kick in. Boston is in that position now where Tatum and Brown are going to be too good to bottom out but not good enough to take you to a championship without the right pieces around them (not a knock on them at all). Now that they have their big contracts it is going to be hard to put pieces around them as the team will be capped out so they can only add one mid-level and mini mid-level a year and then minimum contracts. That'll lead them to being a treadmill team for a few years. So I think it'll be more fair to say they should rebuild instead of saying they are rebuilding. Ainge fukked them by not trading those picks even if not in a huge trade just to put a good 4/5 around them. The Kemba contract is going to kill them too and their only real chance of becoming a contender is if he can rebound to being his old self.

This. It's gonna get even worse in 3 years when Brown is up for Supermax.

The Celtics have two stars who are younger than 25 :mjlol: and have made the eastern conference finals a few times. They are not a rebuilding team. They need to get rid of Steven’s tho, that has run its course.

It’s a soft rebuild IMO. I think Jaylen and Tatum are 2 pieces that truly could be a championship worthy tandem in 3 years. At that point they really could both be top 5 players. Tatum just turned 23 today. Think about that. Jayden brown is 24 and having his best season to date. But I say soft rebuild cause they need to replace everyone around them maybe minus Marcus smart. Everyone else needs to be replaced

The Cs squandered a golden opportunity. They had the perfect mix of youth and vets and they were stupid deep. They let 3 max players walk for nothing. It's was obvious Kyrie was leaving and the team wasn't even living up to expectations. Definitely should've traded him at the deadline. They shoulda been pushing GSW out the way trying to get that sign and trade. Then you had a deal on the table for Hayward which would have gotten you exactly what you needed and you decide to just let him walk? :wtf: You don't get closer to a chip by letting talent go for nothing. Now they get replenish the talent around the big 2 young guns again. I think that it what Gil is talking about. All that said, if Kemba and Smart are healthy and the two young boys show up they can go toe to toe with anyone in the East. Probably the team best suited to deal with the Nets.

They're the only under 25 stars in the league right now that have people running around claiming that they've peaked and their window is shut. My argument was never that their peers don't receive any criticism at all, but it's disproportionately lower than them. Brandon Ingram been in the league 5 years and hasn't sniffed the playoffs and no one bats an eye. Donovan Mitchell blew a 3-1 lead and no one bats an eye. But folks act like it's the end of world because Tatum & Brown aren't ready to lead a team to a title right now.

plenty of people say Simmons has peaked, hes constantly criticized

Boston fans have a complex

Brown/Tatum both just got voted into the ASG on a .500 team but apparently there is some widespread narrative out there where people shyt on them

In my opinion The Warriors drafted James Wiseman instead of Lamelo Ball because James Wiseman is docile and they don’t like when guys have a confidence to them even though confidence is the reason why guys make it to the league and beyond. Mind you Lavar been gone since ESPN pulled that fukk shyt over that change gears statement also with Covid what could Lavar really do.

One of the best examples is the Jordan Bell situation he was a second round pick that the Warriors payed the Bulls 3.5 million dollars to have. Steve Kerr kept taking him out of games and sometimes not even letting him play for weeks to “teach him” lessons. fukk all that shyt especially considering the situation and the stakes that the Warriors were over the cap, they had vets who couldn’t bend their knees, and they needed bodies like if they weren’t such arrogant weirdos trying to be the Spurs then they would’ve been better. Losing is death and the players on the court are the ones with everything on the line.

During the run they wasted so many draft picks that came back to bite them in the ass so that brings us to today the Warriors have gone even more over the cap they are paying the luxury tax and Steph is looking like 2016 and they are wasting his time. Steve Kerr got so lucky but he stay fukking up from the 2016 Finals , to how he interacted with KD, and even this season having Steph so off ball with guys that don’t have the IQ to play that style a good coach at least makes changes to the game plan based on players. If you don’t believe m e think about the injuries of Klay and KD these were load injuries if the Warriors were so many light years ahead why are two of their best players having such wild load injuries. So now they throwing shyt against the wall from getting DLO Then trading him for Wiggins then signing Oubre then filling the team with G-leaguers is a bad look.

So yes drafting James Wiseman was respectability politics because they have a history of drafting players “that keep their head down” because they are so “well spoken” off the court when the only thing that matters is on the court. These things come from the the top and to the media especially considering how they like to knock down players on the team in ways that are dog whistling. To the point that the last KD season they could’ve nipped the shyt in the bud by defending him to the media. You would’ve thought KD was a criminal the way the local media was talking to and about the man. When the Knicks got rid of KP them should not have been able to say the things they were saying if not out of respect to the team but because it was tampering. Tampering is a 100,000 fine. A lot of it had that smile for us negro energy by these stat guys who have no feel for the heart of basketball.

Like Steve Kerr can tell you all about how Trump is so dangerous but won’t switch up the play style based on the players. By the time Wiseman becomes good Steph will be 37 if they took Lamelo they make the finals within three years especially considering how much Dog Melo got in him.

If you don’t believe me before the draft in Miami there was a dinner with James Wiseman, Steve Kerr, The Owner Joe Lacob, Bob Myers, and their lead trainer in addition to liking the fact he didn’t have an agent (Mind you Bob Myers was an agent with such clients as Brandon Roy,JJ Reddikk, Kendrick Perkins, And the Lopez twins) also this weird bullshyt :

“Do you like to go to parties, one of them asked.

“I don’t go to parties,” he replied.

He told them about growing up with a single mom who worked multiple jobs in the projects of Nashville, where he’d sometimes have to finish his homework under the lights of the school bus she drove. At one point, Wiseman turned the interview around on the men, all of them more than twice his age. He asked them how he would fit with the team’s culture and what role he would play on the court. “

If that doesn’t give you :mjpls: vibes then nothing will a bunch a white millionaires happy the lone black guy doesn’t have an agent and they ask him about parties during a worldwide pandemic. Also Kerr got a son named Nick would you let a CAC say Nick Kerr to your face? You can’t be this super intelligent and educated person and overlook the bad optics of naming a child Nick Kerr. I’m willing to bet he smiles that smile he gave to Chris Paul any time he hears his son’s name.

Use whatever buzzword you want.

Widespread narrative is sensationalist. But hey, if you want to pretend that Zach LaVine & Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown are held to even close to a similar standard, be my guest.

One guy is free to miss the playoffs every year while the other has to go deep every year or his ability gets questioned

why would Zach Lavine be held to the same standard as Tatum/Brown? the Celtics have much higher expectations considering they are paired together, and have/had had strong teams around them

anyways, Zach has been criticized his entire career, so :yeshrug:

Jaylen/Tatum are both constantly praised for their development, this whole narrative is funny to me

Like I said in my original post, I cannot shade these dudes for only being able to get to a CF when their peers aren’t doing half of that, and catching minimal criticism for it. This idea that at their ages this team has peaked and just because they haven’t won together yet, means that they can’t in the future is asinine.

And just because you don’t personally believe those things to be true doesn’t mean that there aren’t people out there that do. I never claimed there was some widespread overarching conspiracy so all that shyt is pointless.

People taking it too much in context basically they are in a rebuild with only 2 superstars. The entire roster has to be done over. Danny Ainge knows this and maybe its like the 76ers they need a new coach.
