No troll... Why do you think Jay has had so much more business success than Nas?

Because Jay was about the business shyt earlier than Nas was. Jay's focus was always on the money, Nas was clearly more focused on his art, to the point that he was literally running AWAY from the money.

Nas has become an extremely successful businessman and investor in the past few years though.

And forgive me if this thread has been made already.

But I was listening to Blueprint today and thinking when it's all said and done Jay will probably be my most respected rapper ever. Not my favorite rapper or who I consider the best rapper, but my most respected rapper ever. Mostly for how he handles business outside of hip hop and his character.

Dude is an entrepreneur and hustler of the highest order. The different economic ventures he's into and the success he's achieved is really unparalleled in the rap game.

Plus you never hear dude in the media sh*tting on people heavy. Don't get me wrong, he will sneak diss the sh*t out of you and he might stab you, but you never see him acting like a b*tch on social media or getting in nasty public beefs. All dirt gets handled behind closed doors. Even when he caught a 20-piece in the elevator you never heard a peep, and I can respect that.

And he bagged the illest female in music period--wifey wise, music wise and business wise. Gotta respect that :myman:

Which brings me to the thread... I started wondering why Jay's experienced so much more success outside of hip hop than other rappers... especially Nas because I consider Nas the better emcee (because he deals with better content). But outside of hip hop Nas's success is low compared to Jay. Even emcees who had more commercial success have not had as much business success as Jay.

Summary: So honest question, what's your opinion on why Jay has had so much more business success than other hip hop artists?

Nas is doing fairly well in business, not sure I get your point on this one.

Simple, in the beginning of their careers Nas focused on his music more than Jay Z. Nas was known to have an apartment in Long Island full of notebooks of rhymes. He lived it. Hence his quote "I only need One Mic" and his other song named "Book of Rhymes"

Jay on the other hand focused on both business and rap from day one, starting up his own label with Dame and Biggs, and continuing his business success with Def Jam/Roc Nation and other ventures

Now in the present day you see Nas more focused as more of a business man, and he's very successful at it. I think he'll be $100 mill in net worth eventually with all his investments

Not really a complicated answer tbh :yeshrug:

Steve Stoute also speaks about this is about Nas in his early career

If somebody gave me a hundred thousand, and you a hundred thousand, and told us both to invest in any way we wanted, one of us would make more than the other.

Life isn't a game where rules apply and doing ABC makes XYZ happen. Jay might be smart, but he's also lucky, and has the good fortune of having people around him.

Everything isn't for everybody, and even two people doing the same thing doesn't equal the same results. Every person with business ambitions isn't going to make them come to fruition, so trying to figure out how one made it work and the other hasn't made it work to the same level is a childish way of looking at the world.

Work ethic imo. From everything you read about Jay he always grinding and hustling. Nas seems to have that less enjoying the finer things of life.
