You can say the same for virtually every major city in America , it's just not exclusive to NYC , but for some reason news platforms is taking it way out of proportion when dwelling on the topic ... the only borough i'll say is in critical when it comes to gentrification is Brooklyn but Harlem is still good bread
This is about Harlem specifically, breh. We know its happening everywhere. It's not out of proportion. Y'all ain't got no economy to combat what's moving in. 20 mil rolls over 2 mil every time. That's how they doing it. Y'all have 2.2 m blacks in new York. That's the biggest black population in any city in America. Y'all should be serving cacs left and right. But you not. Just getting kicked out one by one block by block.

Are they pushing the Latinos out as well or are they just moving to Black neighborhoods? I see gentrification in Harlem, U St (DC), Atl, New Orleans etc, but has it also affected the Latin@ neighborhoods?

I think it affects Puerto Ricans, but other groups like Mexicans are actually increasing in number in NYC

I see nothing wrong with this. Any Black people owning property there will benefit whether directly by selling or renting, or indirectly by increased market values. The only people who are hurting are those who weren't owning property in the first place. This collectively brings up everyone's market value.

Isn't the main problem that blacks were dumped into these 'ghettos' in the first placed and ostracized from the rest of the mainstream community? Or is it now that we just wanted exclusivity and can't stand it when other people come into where we originally thought of as our own, regardless of how derelict and crime-ridden we had kept it.
Whites and other ethnicities with money moving into these areas and improving the property value and overall area only helps fellow blacks who are also community minded and want to improve their own standing. Ain't nothing wrong with that.

Are you even from NY? Reading one or two articles don't give you the knowledge to know more than people who actually live here

No, letting someone have your cultural history is not good at all.

There's a significant difference between Harlem and everywhere else. Harlem literally has too strong amount of black history around it.

1) Biggest black library in the country ( only place where you can hear Marcus Garvey speeches)

2)Most famous Black theater ( Apollo theatre)

3) Biggest black owned bank is still Harlem ( Carver bank)

4) And its home to the biggest African American day Parade in the country

* letting white people " Have it" is not good at all.
Carver isnt black owned anymore

As a Harlem resident, i can agree that there is a great number of others races, not just white, than past years but outnumbering black is very incorrect.
I personally don't see the decrease in black population cats is talking about , granted there's been a slight increase in white residents these past couple years but it's nothing alarming IMO
all of you known this writer dosen't have a clue on what they are talking about.
You're over exaggerating a little bit right now. No offense. I think the black population dropped 2 percent in the last decade.
These.

Ladies and gents...the coli dot com in a nutshell.

All of these new york threads are overpopulated with lames not from new york who read a couple of articles and think they know new york better than actual born and bred new yorkers and people who preoccupy too much time to what goes on in new york because the 94.3% white flyover state city/town they live in sucks.

U Street was a lost cause the moment they put a fukking tanning salon there. At least my uncle got good money before selling his food joint.
