I know 99 was when No Limit was on the out, but how big was Hoody Hoo, TRU Homies and Da Crime Family back then and compared to whatever CMR was dropping @OHSNAP! @JustCKing @You know damn well @NO-BadAzz @Homeboy Runny-Ray @No Hook

Da Crime Family was weird. It was anticipated and was like the Tank's final stake at remaining a force. It debuted a lot of the new talent from the artists to producers. We literally saw the members of BBTP kind of leave with this album. I don't think Craig B even had one beat on this album.

But yeah, that CMR wave was too strong for this album to make up any ground CMR had gained at that point. Overall, Da Crime Family was lost in the shuffle in '99. It was a solid offering. Not as good as TRU 2 Da Game, but by far the best the Millers had to offer that year. I will say, they showed a more mature side with Da Crime Family and had more depth on this album.

To me, around this time, P and the production team were going for 'cross-over' sounds to me vs 97,

Soft tone patterns vs how their radio singles were pre-98.

It may be a reach but I think their singles (production) prior 98 were more harder/edger

Silk's "That's Cool" even though a nice single, would have never gotten him the attention pre-98 run
Sure, but that comes with the territory. When you get more successful, you want that mainstream stardom

NL had no chance against regional/downsouth competition (CMR with a huge year, Back That Azz Up, Bling Bling, Guerilla Warfare were played everywhere) and national competition (Ruff Ryders, Jay Z, Eminem, Dre later on) and they got lost in the shuffle after Da Crime Family, which didn't even sell 500k copies. Even though it was by far the Millers' best effort since Life Or Death basically. Last album from the Millers to go platinum was Made Man, never again after that. Snoop's sales n hits in 99/00 kept em afloat somewhat too

Yeah i meant platinum. Made Man was the last Miller one. Snoop went plat+ with Top Dogg and Last Meal afterwards, that was it. Choppa's album never went gold

Da Crime Family, plus Fiend (Street Life had a shytton of bangers), Snoop (Top Dogg is in his discography's top 3) and Mac (WW3 imo THE best NL album!) albums from 99 are fuego holmes

Big time No Limit fan here but they put out a large amount of trash in 1999 some shyt had some bangers like the 2nd Fiend album and MAC but overall it was a bad year in my opinion

Yeah the worst stuff NL ever put out came in the first 4 months with Made Man (oof), Next Level (repetitive, rushed), Boot Camp (what can you expect from em), Foolish OST (couple of nice cuts), then Lil Italy's trash later on. Bossalinie was a disappointment (not that bad tho), Who U Wit (some hard beats), Gangsta Harmony (solid, felt rushed) & Thuggin' (ups n downs) were mediocre imo. But Snoop, Fiend, Mac, TRU albums were great (now imagine that Tank Doggs album instead of TRU). Mercedes was surprisingly solid

I always felt that Street Life was the swan song/closing of the 96-98 chapter as that was the final album that had BBTP overseeing the production. After that it was the new crop of guys P brought in
You're right. KL had some throwaway beats for Lil Italy a month later, BBTP left at that point tho. Loved Street Life's sound tho, that's when they got time and focus for once. BBTP was burnt out heavy
