TLDR, OSU is number one in the country in every single rating.

Some tidbits from Gleitman:

  • Big focus during the bye week was on fixing issues, not hitting the road recruiting and going through fundamental stuff like it normally is. I am told there were some contentious coaches meetings, but that they were necessary conversations. Everyone got stuff off their chest and needed to in order to get to the root of how to fix the holes on defense.
  • On that note, I don't think you're going to see wholesale changes---that's just not possible and stuff that they have to do in March/April not in October. That said, I do think Knowles will be able to sink his teeth in a bit more when it comes to the front 4 and how they're attacking at the line of scrimmage and getting after the passer. There is optimism from people I spoke to inside the WHAC that the tweaks they can make at this point in the season can/will help.
  • As Ryan Day has stated, Zen Michalski is the guy to get the first crack at LT. Ohio State has been toying with some other combinations, though, should Michalski not be it. I think both George Fitzpatrick and Donovan Jackson could be secondary options.
  • Re: injuries, I know Day said they don't expect Quinshon Judkins to miss time, but I still wouldn't be completely shocked if Q is out against Nebraska this week to ensure he can play vs. Penn State. Obviously Kacmarek is out for a while (maybe a return for the CFP?), so Bennett Christian will be asked to step up in the blocking game with Jelani Thurman being asked to step up in the passing game. On defense, the injury I was referencing last week and earlier this week was Lathan Ransom, and I'm comfortable talking about that now that someone asked at the presser yesterday. Obviously Day was non-committal there---from what I am hearing my best guess is that he comes back for NW or Purdue, but guess you never know. Does seem, though, that the injury (which I believe happened in practice), isn't as bad as initially feared or rumored on social media.
  • If Ransom does indeed miss time, I think OSU is going to potentially use multiple personnel looks to fill his spot. I know Malik Hartford got a ton of reps with the 1s in practice last week (not sure if that means Downs moved to Ransom's spot), but that OSU also has looked at both Hancock and Lorenzo Styles at safety, with the other playing nickel. They've also had a look at Hancock at safety with Jermaine Mathews at slot. Jaylen McClain has also gotten some reps with the 1s. Again, trying to find the best combo, and maybe even use some different looks based on down & distance situations.
