From Austin Ward and Birm, names to watch are Robert Gillespie (Alabama) and Demarco Murray (Oklahoma). Gillespie would be the most ideal. Otherwise, there’s a college HOF/Heisman winning RB who is an alum who just happens to be coaching. 🤔

Yeah saw Tim May said he spoke to Edward and he’s not leaving TSU. Seen the Scottie Graham name too. Saw on the Huddle board that Chip will have a big hand in choosing the replacement.

Biddle from Bucknuts says Day offered Eddie awhile back but he didn’t want to leave Tenn St. Then Alford wasn’t extended so the writing on the wall that this was going to be Alford last year here. Can’t really blame Alford for leaving (except where he went :brutusSpit: ) Biddle also said they had to really push Alford to recruit but also he was like a father figure to the guys in the running back room. Didn’t realize that JK was the only rb in the Alford era to get drafted.

Yeah, from what someone else said how it went down is that they approached Eddie about his interest in the future, not necessarily right now, but that if Eddie was on board with coming now then Tony would have been replaced.

And yeah JK is the only signee to get drafted. Weber and Zeke were Stan Drayton recruits. And Sermon came on as a transfer. Tre will be the second tho.

Recruiting is the life blood of the program, so if he doesn't care for it then you can't be mad at Day for wanting someone who can sell the program to the top tier RB's in the country. Dirty work that he choose to go to scUM during spring ball but that's how they roll as a program and as a school. If Drayton wants to come back, they should pick him since he does have success over here and is familiar with the expectations overall.

Just chatted with a great source and have a lot of info for you.

* OSU is not in a big hurry to replace Alford. Ryan Day will conduct interviews at various points throughout next week. Among the candidates will be Scottie Graham, Eddie George, Pepe Pearson ... and one name I cannot give away right now (who is actually not a former OSU RB lol). And there will likely be others. I'm told Day's phone was blowing up today with RB coaches trying to get an interview at OSU. So, it could be someone no one is even thinking about right now. Again, there is no rush to make this hire. This is the primo RB coaching job available in college football and good candidates will be lining up to try and get a seat at the table.

* Alford was well-liked at OSU, but there is a reason his contract was not extended after the 2023 season (notice how many other OSU assistants got raises/had their contracts extended). 2024 was basically a lame-duck season for him unless he turned some things around. My source tells me Tony got a bit lazy on the recruiting trail and had to often be pushed/motivated to recruit to the level of expectation.

* I'm told zero worries about any of the current RBs transferring. That includes Tre, Judkins, Hayden, Peoples, etc.

* OSU did make a counter offer to Alford, but they were not going to guarantee 3 years at $800K a pop. OSU is confident they will find an upgrade, while acknowledging the timing is less than ideal. However, I'm also told if Chip Kelly has to take on RB coaching responsibilities for the remainder of spring, that would not be a big deal at all. Think of all the things that have been on Chip's plate for the last 16 years as a head coach. Adding some RB coaching responsibilities during spring ball would be nothing for him. Presumably, Day would also help out a lot with the RBs until they find a new RB coach.
