First off, I'm not sure most of you know what a blessing is.

blessing: (noun) the act of invoking divine protection or aid

What I think the thread starter is trying to say (but may be to ignorant to actually convey):

People who get pregnant on accident (not wanting a baby at the time) call their children a blessing, when they didn't mean OR want for it to happen. Not meaning to have it is negative to you and therfor, not a blessing.

Sometimes, I feel like people use this word "blessing" as a way of saying "I God meant for this to happen".......Instead of just saying "I fukked up........but I'm DAMN sure gonna take care of this baby."

I guess the idea is, people are making the mistake of having kids when they are not ready (irresponsibly), and THEN jumping on the "responsible" band-wagon while saying, "my child was a blessing"...even though you clearly didn't want to be pregnant. It was an accident. Just admit it.

However, what the thread starter fails to understand is when you have a child, that baby is YOURS. He/She becomes your happiness. Your JOY. He's/She's a mini YOU. You love him/her because they are yours. They make you feel good.

And for that feeling, parents feel that their children are blessings.

I don't have kids. But when I do, I await that feeling. It must feel good.

You knew from the beginning that no contraception was 100%, so I'm under the impression that you made up your mind when you decided to have sex that you would keep the baby if the contraception didn't work. That is why you didn't get the abortion. Correct?

Yes, your children where unplanned, but they may not have been accidents because you made the conscious decision before hand to have sex (knowing the steep price). Some people are indifferent to having children. It's like "if it happens...it happens ....we'll deal with it when it comes". I'm guessing you're one of those people.

Unplanned children are exactly what they are. Unplanned. A planned child is probably easier to deal with, but to each his own. You live and you learn.

As someone in this thread already stated unplanned isn't synonymous with unwanted.

I never premeditated what I would do if the contraception I was taking failed. I crossed said bridge when I came to it. I was shocked at both pregnancies (especially the current one) but abortion was the further thought on my mind.

The1st time it failed I was on the same pill for 5+ years, until I started to get painful heart palpitations and was advised by my OB GYN to switch to another kind. During the switch I became pregnant.

This time around, I blame Pfizer for giving me defective pills......
