They came out 3 months apart. Cuban Linx would have been done or very close to it by the time Infamous dropped. They probably heard some of the album because they worked on it but the albums was basically recorded on parallel time lines

That era it took a couple months at least from final recording sessions to finalize the tracklist, finalize album art, do the final mix, get the album mastered, printing up hundreds of thousands of CDs and tapes and getting them distributed to all the record stores

I’m pretty sure we debated this in another thread. It’s the highest streaming 90s hip hop album that wasn’t a commercial juggernaut in real time. That is significant when you speak on standing the test of time. It’s objective evidence.

That doesn't necessarily speak to how timeless it is though. On that same token, there's evidence that proves that Chronic 2001 has spent the better part of the near 25 years since its release in the charts. It's the MOST streamed album of the 90's and on top of that, it's probably the highest selling Hip Hop album that never had a Top 10 hit. "Still Dre" peaked at like 90 something on the charts in real time. It reached its highest peak after last year's performance at the Super Bowl. Even the Eminem feature wasn't some runaway smash. The biggest single from the album peaked at like 25 or something like that. It oustreams albums with bigger hits and sold more copies.

By your own metric, 2001 would be the most timeless 90's Hip Hop album.

The thing about Infamous and other grimy NY albums back then, was they put you in the exact mood and scenery of the album. Movie-like shyt from the lyrics and the beats.

Infamous just feels like a cold day in NY...Classic from start to finish...only track I'd say is a skip is Temp rising and I replaced it with the OG which fits much better with the overall album.

Some of Ya'll nikkaz is weird shyttin' on @mobbinfms opinion The Infamous definitely up there for Greatest album of all time. The weak track on there is Party's Over every other song is all time classic. Not many albums compare

this is why the infamous is an incredible album. i wouldve never thought somebody could think party over is the weak track, but its not like theres any other track i can really point to an say this is definitely the worst one. album is just stacked

And I never saw a grown man so angry and hurt like Max B walking in that video with his crew dissing Prodigy.

Prodigy got to his soul.

They should have squashed it.

I wouldn't argue against it, but I think there's a stronger case for Paid In Full & Illmatic. Even 36 Chambers. All subjective though obviously.

I always thought it was dope how Q-Tip was involved. Some of these tracks sound like if you could imagine a thugged out ATCQ would sound. P as Q-Tip and Hav as Phife. Trife Life sounds like ATCQ but dark. Those Q-Tip drums mixed with Hav’s dark production was a perfect match.

But yeah undisputed classic album. And HOE and Murda Muzik were just as good to me

In real time, 2001 was a commercial juggernaut. Let’s imagine it was the 15th most commercially successful rap album of the 90s. Now it’s #1 in streaming. It’s stood the test of time, but it had a strong foundation.

The Infamous, on the other hand, was likely somewhere between 100-200 in real time in terms of its commercial success as compared to other 90s rap albums. Now it’s #12

2001 moved up 15 spots, maybe slightly more.
The Infamous moved up 88-188 spots. No 90s album has stood the test of time quite like The Infamous.
