To the thread starter, do you really think this is the ONLY 90s album in that 10 years that was great and still great today? :russ:.Especially considering that wasn't even the best album of 1995
No. I’m saying of the top 15 streaming albums on Spotify it was the least commercially successful (you could argue Illmatic) which speaks to its unique status as a legendary album today.

even though I prefer HOE (P was a monster on there) I have to say The Infamous is an all around better album

its similar to the Illmatic/It Was Written comparisons where Nas stepped up his rapping on the latter but Illmatic remains the standard

So I just looked up Black Moon and they have lower numbers than Smif N Wessun. I would have thought it would be the other way around :ohhh:
That’s why this shyt is so interesting to me :russ:

Why is that?
In real time the Black Moon singles felt massive. To me they are some of the best hip hop songs ever. Buckshot was considered one of the best for a short period of time around 93-94.
Smif N Wessun didn’t seem to have the same impact to me.
What was your take in real time? Maybe it felt different in NY.

Although I was a young buck during those days. I thought Smiff n Wessun took what BM did and took it a level higher. They carried Duck Down for years.

My quintessential 90s albums are

IWW
The Purple Tape
It's Dark & Hell Is Hot
The Infamous
Illmatic
RTD
AEOM
LAD
Doggystyle
Low End Theory

Depending on the day, my opinion on what's the best album from back then changes
Decent list, but I’m taking off the infamous, purple tape and LAD, adding RD, atliens, and e. 1999
