The setup with Ishii losing via ref stoppage to ZSJ made that sequence all the more tense.

That booking :banderas:

If this was anywhere else the complaint would be that "having a ref stoppage 1 match earlier took away from the drama in the main event because there was no way they would end two back to back matches the same way" :lolbron: :troll:

But hey, if Sunday goes as it should I will :banderas: at the booking :ehh:

It really sucks the way they are dealing with these last tournament appearances of the legends. Not a single special "he still got it" moment. Just losing all the matches except for one or two.
You're describing Kojima, sadly. If we're taking about Nagata...different story.

Nagata lost almost every night, but finished his G1 career quite strong for his age, with a final showing that most legends would appreciate.

He put the future over, got one signature win (over ZSJ), and shared a hell of a final G1 moment with his former student.

I knew he would never contend, and he was never really bothered by the points (or lack thereof), so I honestly enjoyed his run.

Four star matches with Tana, Naito, and Ibushi at the age of 49? Legendary.

Him having great performances are proof he can still hang with anybody. And legends who could still hang in the ring and get a compelling story in the G-1 is not something very common. Choshu is pretty much the only one and it was a huge success.

We are not saying his farewell was a bad look for Nagata, we are saying it was a missed opportunity to do something fun and interesting with him as a thank you for all he's done for the company. Same thing happened with Liger. There's nothing necessarily wrong with booking them as they did, but it's kinda boring when there's an opportunity for something fresh and special right there.

And Nagata has been putting the future over since 2007 breh. No one really gets elevated by defeating Yugi in 2017, and given that he can still hang with anyone in the ring, they don't lose much by losing in a special occasion like his last G-1. So why not have fun and make him compete for a spot in the Finals till the last day?

I saw the matches with Ibushi and Naito. Solid matches, but far from 4 stars.

Anyways, Naito/Tana was the weakest of the trilogy, IMO. A good match, but I prefer the previous 2.
I dunno, breh...I really feel like Nagata turned up a notch for his farewell G1. Maybe sentimentality is giving me drunk goggles on it, but I thought he was great.

Because he's old...and in a block with Tana, Ishii, Naito, Ibushi, and Goto :ld:

He did excellent, but you're definitely wearing drunk googles. :heh:

Juice vs Elgin was pretty good. :ehh:

Juice picking up the win means he'll be the first in line to face Omega for the US championship, right?:jbhmm:
