It defeats the purpose of the whole system. I feel like it should have still been dockable. It splits the userbase and compromises how games can be played. I'm not a fan of it at all but I've never liked splitting the userbase which Nintendo never has a problem doing.

how is this any different from the 2DS or the New 3DS XL, DSi revisons?

2DS took out 3D, the New line/i lines had games that can only be played on those systems...and those userbases are fine.

Probably gonna kill in Japan if those stats about them playing majority in handheld mode are still true

Take away all of the appeal of your device brehs

they did it already with the 2DS for 3DS, so nothing really shocking.

Nobody really cared about the 3D on the 3DS. Many games moved away from it naturally anyway. The New 3DS barely had any games just for it. Portable to docked mode is a core functionality for the Switch. It's the heart of the whole concept of it.

I play my switch 100 percent in portable mode so I disagree docked mode is just a option if I didn't already have a switch this would be 4 me

New 3DS didn't have much exclusive games, but how many docked only games are there really? I can only think of 1-2 switch and mario party.

Docking gives better performance and graphics for almost all games.

I rarely play it undocked

They clearly trying to target the tablet/phone gamer market and move more units right before Pokemon drops. Younger kids these days play Fortnite on iPads, and the Japanese market is supposedly a big handheld market. Makes sense that they drop a handheld only version.

I play online.

You do realize you can play handheld online...right?

The dock doesn't inherently house any ethernet/wifi connectivity. It's all within the system itself.

edit: the only local multiplayer game on your list is MP (I think, I don't think there's online)...and I never fukked w/ MP to begin with, so it ain't an issue. Those other games...I play them online fine.

I love fukkin around with my friends on Mario Party, but that ain't the reason I copped the Switch.
