Why are you guys down on this? Nintendo has been the strongest in its handheld market... Seems like a no brainer. Im assuming the base can provide extra power for games as well?
Because the handheld market has drastically shrunk since they last released one.

But the larger question is what @winb83 is alluding to and that is how do they stop the gaming droughts?

But this is how they stop gaming droughts :dwillhuh:

They were spread out between 2 different systems.

Now they consolidate into 1 and have consistent releases

The handheld market is like Blockbuster video looking at the coming of Netflix. Parents don't need to buy their kids dedicated handheld gaming devices anymore when cellphones and tablets they already own can handle that.

With that in mind who does this appeal to? Core gamers are cool with consoles.

It appeals to people that want Nintendo games. You cant get the newest Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Pokémon etc on your cellphone.

Most people see Nintendo as a compliment to XB1/PS4. not direct competition.

So uhhh yall completely missing the point.

If this is a system handheld not a hand held system. That's huge. Do you remember how dope this was

If not for the crappy battery life and crazy price it would have been a wrap

If I can have the power of a system that I can carry around mobile, play mobile connect to the internet mobile and play on random tv's.

this could be really really dope.... 3rd parties would have to make nx exclusives though...which honestly at this point I'm ok with. We already got two system 3 if you count the PC that deal with multi plat games.

The Nintendo DS sold 155 million. The 3DS is at like 40% of that. 60% of the total number of people that bought a DS did not buy a 3DS. That's a huge decline.

The Wii U sold like 13 million. People don't see Nintendo as a complement to the XB1/PS4.

I still don't see why Nintendo doesn't just go to Sony and strike a partnership. Sony can make the home console and Nintendo can do the portable and they can each put their games on both.

Nintendo's next gaming platform, codenamed NX, will be a portable console that has detachable controllers, a new report has suggested.

According to Eurogamer, "a number of sources" have confirmed the NX will be a powerful handheld device, but that it also has controller modules that can be attached to both sides of its screen.

The system can also be connected to a docking station for use on a big screen. This base unit effectively connects what is described by Eurogamer as the "brain of the NX" (housed within the portable device) to a TV.

The report also states that the NX will use cartridges as its physical media of choice. Nintendo has a long history of using cartridges for its portable gaming devices.

The NX will reportedly run on a proprietary operating system designed by Nintendo, and not Android, as was suggested by previous reports.

The NX was first officially revealed in March 2015 and, before his passing, company president Satoru Iwata called it a "brand new concept" for video game platforms.

Nintendo hasn't publicly talked about the hardware, but the leading rumor was that the company is seeking to unite its handheld and console efforts. Multiplereports suggested NX will include a traditional living room console and "at least one mobile unit."

More recently, Nintendo confirmed the NX's global release date is in March 2017, but did not provide any more information. It said it is holding back on a reveal in order to protect a unique element of NX.

"In terms of NX, there's an idea that we're working on," said Shigeru Miyamoto. "That's why we can't share anything at this point, and I don't want to comment on the other companies. If it was just a matter of following advancements in technology, things would be coming out a lot quicker."

What if that original vision happened over 20 years ago......I think it will happen eventually even in a limited spectrum.

Nintendo are some maniacs for this, but it may work.

It's pretty much Playstation World and XBox to a smaller extent. That's it.

How has his strategy worked for their past consoles?
