at times it is, at time it's not, depends on what needs to be done

I'd rather to see a combination of it, being the real visual effects with CGI to enhance it

i dont think we'll ever see anything close to the original star wars prop wise

those shots of the death star always made me :noah:

The thing is CGI isn't created equal, some studios are better than others and really good CGI cost

the company Blur yhe did the CGI for the Arkham Origins trailer, DC Universe, and That Star Wars online game

they shyt is almost real, but just to make a trailer that's few minutes long of that quality cost 500k to 1 mill, so imagine how much a feature film would be that looked just as good

the shytty final fantasy movie spirits within cost 137 milllion, and thats more than After Earth which took like 130 million, with most of the cost probably going to Will's salary

is cgi cheaper then to use props?

Generally speaking CGI is far more expensive but easier and faster to do. For example, if you want a guy getting his arm cut off, you green screen his arm off, add digital blood, etc.

If you did it with practical effects/props, you'd have to plant blood squibs, mold a fake arm, paint it, then rig a way for it to be pulled off manually during the scene when it's "cut".

The thing about practical effects, they usually look 100x better though.
