I don't see how Kanu is a snakes oil salesman. In a normal democracy, these deaths would not have happened. Let's start there as an operative point. Then, we can analyze whether Kanu should be on trial for hate speech against other ethnic groups...

i have just as many igbo friends as yoruba friends , both of my parents speak fluent Igbo and one of my sisters in engaged to an Ibibio man,

Kanu is too emotional to be a post-independence leader. However, Nigeria would never allow a 'Nehru' to rise up among the Igbo elite. They would kill him like they did to Ken Saro-Wiwa. Kanu is a product of the Nigerian condition. Even Ralph Uwazurike, leader of MASSOB (the group before IPOB), was illegally put in prison for 5 years before they broke him and made him renounce his ideology.
I do believe speech is violence and Kanu commits it very often. But his violence is launched forth as retribution that the Nigerian state has done to Igbos, along with other groups.
If the Nigerian government keeps playing games then shyt WILL pop off.

the funny thing is a lot of Yorubas I know and even some Hausas dont have a problem with Biafra agitation , but no one wants to be insulted on a daily basis.... and the best thing he could do is to tone down the rhetoric and be more diplomatic
It is in no ones interest for this to escalate .......
the good thing is that the military are now going to withdraw, and hopefully things will calm down but the damage is already done
