@Bonk what's your take on the latest developments? :lupe:

Honestly, I don't really have an opinion apart from the fact that I don't support extrajudicial killings of innocent people. And the fact that Nigeria is a jungle with too much savagely killings. I saw the thread yesterday night (including the sick and barbaric video) when he posted it and I had to avoid it because due to the last thread - I know they'll end up turning it into a medium to attack Yorubas, when Yorubas have nothing to do with it. And you've fake Aframs posters, who're Igbos, like "Im_sleep" and "Diasporan Royalty" who'll come on the thread to instigate shyt against Yorubas.

So, it's better to avoid the thread than start reading offensive comments about my people when they have nothing to do with it. Especially when millions of Igbos live in the Yoruba part of the country, making money and thriving, with no history of Yorubas ever killing them. I don't have a problem with Igbos since I know about Igbos and maybe people from Benin - before any other group in Nigeria. I actually just started knowing about the other groups a few years ago.

Anyway, as a Yoruba son, I don't know what to say. All I can say is that we're good whatever happens to Nigeria. Lagos, which is Yoruba's economic centre, has the 5th largest economy in Africa (Nigeria has the largest economy). 3 out of the 5 richest black people in the world are Yorubas. 3 out of the 5 greatest contemporary black scientists are Yorubas. Geographically, we're the most blessed in Nigeria to form our own country: access to sea, massive arable land for agriculture, we've oil in two states and one of my dad's younger brothers was just talking about some oil exploration project his company is working on in the Yoruba basin of Benin republic a few weeks ago and he said it's positive. And based on what I know about our history - we don't lose wars. So, my people are good no matter what happens because we've got the brains, land, resources, and money.

I wish my Igbo brothers all the best. But the video is heart-wrenching.

Why you're being so messy breh :deadrose:

I fux with @Diasporan Royalty but I don't know their history :hubie:

@Bonk 's post was very reasonable aside from that part. :yeshrug:

His post was somewhat reasonable except for his claim that Diasporan Royalty is a crypto-Igbo. Sounds like a Nigerian conspiracy you'd read on roadside-rags or Hausa romance novels.

Also, the Yoruba were defeated by the Sokoto Caliphate, who captured Ilorin and by the Nupe, who defeated the Oyo Empire prior to and during their collapse.

When it is your turn, like Abiola in '93, do you want Igbos to say: :yeshrug:
Unlike Igbos, we know our own can be our enemy. I grew up with Dele Giwa, who came to the U.S. with my dad and was assisianted by the orders of a Yoruba general. Igbos need to understand that your own folks can be your worst enemy and the Nigerian issue is of the elites taking advantage the have nots. We seem to understand that in Yoruba land.

Lagos is a Yoruba city with tons of Igbos. You don't see us stating ethnic clashes against your peeps or anyone. We're smarter than that

That fakkit is an illiterate bum who has no identity. He's Haitian today. The next day he's Afram. A day after that he's on a thread where Nigerians are discussing Nigerian issues trying to instigate shyt between Yorubas and Igbos. I don't think he knows who his dad is.

I don't like the guy. He was on the last thread instigating shyt. Then there was a next thread about "Ifa" which is a Yoruba religion, this nikka came there to derail it with vodun. He needs to stick to collecting food stamps in the Bronx and posting pictures of women that will never spit on him.

P.S: LMAO @ no one cares about my people when Yoruba religion is the biggest in black diaspora. Give this bum a cookie and someone needs to ban him from all threads about Nigeria. And watch your mouth @Diasporan Royalty before you lose all your teeth.

You were dishonest about Yorubas not having fractious ethinc relations in Lagos. Now you're deflecting from your disproven claim by trying to place video evidence of your dishonesty as a "comeback".
:sas2:

We just had an outbreak of violence in my hometown of Ife after 200 years of peace between Hausas and Igbo. It's one thing for an occasional flare up, but it's another to build a case around that to make a breakaway republic.

You can use the cutesy smilies all you want, but don't put Yorubas on the same plain as Igbos when it comes to that. Y'all never had to worry about us living in our lands

Thanks.....but with all due respect to trauma you and your people are going through now....maybe later..... need a more detailed outline

Not a thesis paper, but more info.

Where is Igbo land, what are the natural resources. What types of conflicts existed in the region pre colonization? How were those conflicts exploited by England during colonization?
Which ethnic group has dominated govt. positions nationwide since independence?
What is the relationship between Igbos and other groups since independence?
Why did they want to separate from the rest of Nigeria before?
What has led to the resurgence of the separation movement?

Nigerians travel and are everywhere.....where is the biggest Igbo diasporan group(which country?)

What are they doing to publicize the atrocities?

Thanks...

1. Igbo land is within the Eastern and Southeastern area of Nigeria. As per pre colonial conflicts, not too sure I'm aware of.
2. Since independence primarily Hausa and Yoruba at the federal level (President/Head of State, Ministerial positions etc).
3. Igbos are generally seen to be 'money hungry' and 'cheats'. Some will recognize that Igbos are very industrious and tend to be some of the better educated in Nigeria (a few days ago it was announced that Igbo states scored highest amongst other states in Nigeria on the WASSCE exam (West African Secondary School Exam essentially the exam you take to graduate high school)
4. This one is a dicey answer and could be a full on book. It's hard to give an answer if you don't understand the politics of that time. And also, this answer differs depending on you who ask.

Long story short.

Nigeria was broken into 3 political zones, like mega states almost. North, West, East. Hausa to the North, Yoruba to the West and Igbo to the south. There was a coup where the leaders of other zones except the East were killed, so soon after the military started to slaughter Igbo people without remorse. Later, the leader of the East, Ojukwu, said that if Nigeria will not protect we the Igbos then we don't want to be part of this country anymore. So he separated. Civil war broke and eventually Nigeria won.

Now, some people will say, Ojukwu, who was an Igbo, saw that Oil and Natural Gas was recently discovered in the East and wanted to take all the Oil for himself and that is why he seceded.

The latter explanation will usually what is touted.

5. The resurgence has been brewing for many years based on the political representation of the country. Like the US, Nigeria is a federal system in that yes, there is a national government, but the states and even counties have a lot of capacity to govern themselves. However, many jurisdictions and responsibilities that should be left to state and local governments have been assumed by the federal government.

Example. Take ports for example. Very important for trade in the modern day. There are areas in South eastern Nigeria that could serve as some of the biggest ports in the country if they were allowed to build their own ports. So essentially, the Federal government takes responsibility of things that State governments should do, and then in turn, does nothing about it. In effect, leading to little to no development.

Additionally, there were killings of Igbos by Hausa/Fulani heardsman (cattle rearers) that went largely unpunished. That and the fact that the political system is stacked against the Igbos. There's a lot of stuff man.

6. The largest diaspora groups outside of Nigeria of Igbos are pretty much in line with the rest of the diaspora Nigerian population. The biggest: the UK, the US (particularly Dallas and Houston, but also NYC area, the DC and Baltimore region, ATL, Chicago), Toronto (these are usually younger people though under 35). Other notable diasporas are in Ghana, Malaysia, South Africa, Australia, the EU, Dubai.

As per what they are doing...idk man

Hope this helps. Not as comprehensive or as well written as I would have liked but just wanted to give you an idea of what's going on.
