What killed me watching Fields were the obvious downs they were going to send the team at him.
3, maybe 4 times and it worked each time.
You ain't a rookie QB anymore.
3rd year, week 17.
4 seasons deep.
Audible and check that shyt. Scramble or something.
I think this is an honest summary from the Bears subreddit:
Things not on Fields:
- 120ish yards given up to Aaron Jones
- No interior low-mid level spy (got gashed over our D in this range all game)
- Interior Line getting fukked 0.5s into a play
- No calls from refs (2 late hits, many missed holds on both sides, missed PI, Packers getting a free challenge)
- Poor game calling (8 runs , 2 pass) on many drives
- Screens on 3rd and 22
Things on Fields:
- At least 1 sack that he rolled in to
- Some inaccurate throws
- Failure to either audible out of plays or help move protection
- Still held onto the ball a bit long at times. My guess is downfield was covered very well or he didnt read the zone timing well
- Low energy in a big game
I don't know, that's supposed to be your legacy game and at this point you're supposed to be a vet QB - you got to do some of those second points already. Every trick in the book you know as a QB should have tried to come out today to fight for your spot.
A QB with better fundamentals makes the difference here. Caleb sometimes gets his Peyton Manning on with the audibles (pretty rare for a college QB) and at least would've tried something.
