nikka I’ve lived on the southside of chi most of my life and I dont smoke, I’ve seen these billboards and ads on the back of magazines my whole life.

never once did I think “hmm let me go get a pack of Newports :jbhmm:” cuz I know what they do and nikkas do too.

Ok and? That’s you. That’s a weak argument. Everybody ain’t built the same and yo exception ain’t the rule

They had the Black Men in dominant roles and the White Men is subjective and submissive roles:

:dame: @ those ads

Remember how the corner store facade was plastered with tobacco and alcohol ads?

Even the Flintstones used to sell cigs

The Alcohol companies were no better. St. Ides cut that check to the top rappers in the 90s to sell brew. Imagine if that stuff was actually any good. :francis:

Man I never got hooked on smoking or drinking, but it wasn’t for a lack of these companies trying.

Ice cream man would come around with candy cigarettes and the bubble gum ones that actually pushed out real dust when you blew them. shyt was sad.

The fact that they were marketed as the cool thing to do and mostly to us blacks is the shyt that pisses me off in retrospect. Maybe if i hadn't have seen ads in magazines on the regular it wouldn't have been on my subconscious and possibly i would have never started smoking the fukking things.

So others are weak minded and easily influenced to buy products that are known to kill?

tip toe around personal accountability Brehs

It’s because of the hypocrisy involved behind the scenes. Food, drugs, beverage , etc . All the unhealthy shyt is allowed because of $$$. American Cancer Society do business with tobacco companies, Susan Komen (?) do business with unhealthy food companies and tobacco companies , etc . I’m gonna find a link to a book . All these companies and lobby groups are crooked.
At that point, no the average American is no match for big govt .

Then you had some Dems & Al Sharpton who opposed banning menthol cigs like Newports.

Influential Harlem civil rights leader Rev. Al Sharpton has opposed a menthol cigarette ban, saying it could create “another Eric Garner situation” because the legislation fails to address how cops would enforce such a law.

“Eric Garner was killed during an encounter selling loosies,” Sharpton said in January, referring to the Staten Island man who died in 2014 after being taken down by a cop amid a dispute over selling illegal smokes.

Sharpton heads the National Action Network, which has received funding from tobacco giant RJ Reynolds — the maker of the nation’s top-selling menthol cigarette brand, Newport.
