hardly anything to "fear", but just embarrassing. it's not necessary to give non-citizens the right to vote; it's fukking stupid

this party is making it way too easy to leave :dead:

That’s great, let’s keep this kind of stuff in TLR where it belongs. It’s no different than the right wing hyper anti immigrant stuff that pops up there

No it's not. Just because you're liberal doesn't mean you have to agree with that. The policy makes no sense at all. And it's completely unnecessary.

I’m not liberal, none of my beliefs fall in line with American liberals. Just because you’re not a nut job right wingers doesn’t mean you’re liberal. Please try and figure out these ideologies before claiming to understand peoples beliefs. Don’t rely on right wing media. Thanks

You’re the kind of person they recruit to go to these school meetings and harass teachers over American history teachings (because they have no idea what CTR is except for what white supremacists tell them)

How does it not make sense? It's people that are here legally and that means they'll be members of locality for an extended period of time. They're going to be impacted by policies in the area and have to be contributing in some way if they're legal permanent residents. We'd be talking about Student residents, H1-B workers (which is a pretty big deal in the research and tech industries), etc. They're here legally and contributing, why shouldn't they have a vote locally in the communities they belong to?

You need to not like immigrants to understand it. That’s the issue here and that’s what it’s all about. It’s also why it’s pointless to engage him or OP on any of this

It doesn't play well at all because explaining to logic is too difficult.

@storyteller just made a great and valid argument in favor of their franchise, but the counter-argument is "foreign citizens want to vote in America".

It's a smaller soundbite and people are inclined to feel that way.

This part of the article is flat out wrong.

Statelessness

The reasons it happens varies, but people can and do end up being non-citizens all of the time. There's millions of them around the world.
They're the exception, not the rule. And the immigrants we've got coming don't have that issue.

there is no logic :yeshrug: only citizens should be allowed to vote. its a privilege that comes with being a citizen, in every country on the planet

the french cant vote here. i cant vote in china. its just not any deeper than that

We go things differently here.

We created a weird power-sharing National government in the US.

We buck the trend and allow for birthright citizenship in the US.

Why not let all legal ppl vote...

Actually based on the proposal this isn’t a stretch I thought they were extending this to undocumented immigrants.
