Yeah they deserve credit for not being greedy when they could have been. If I'm going to criticize a company for doing BS I'll applaud them for doing the right thing.

Guys acting like plug and play hasn't been the norm for nearly 30 years. 
Seriously, what's the point of removing the disc drive?
Maybe it'll be compatible with a future ps5 revision. I think the main reason they went this route was to give people the option of adding a disc drive to a digital ps5

pretty sure that post was made without seeing it before him…I agreed with him at the time and thought it looked cheap as I watched the video but when I actually got it, it doesn’t look bad at all…it’s literally the PS5 but smaller in terms of the quality of the material
Imo it looks like an uglier version of the ps5, which was already one of the ugliest consoles ever. It doesn't even look that much smaller, and the disc drive hump looks awful.

So they can manufacture a single version probably. All of them are the same except some have the disc drive plugged onto them and some don't.
Seems like Gamestop is doing a trade in special for the new PS5. people can swap out to this one for less than $100.
