Nas still dope but his pen is nowhere near Kendricks at this point. But he's 30 years in the game. It's to be expected. He can't sit around writing rhymes all day. He's already the GOAT. But far from the best in this day.
Nas at 70% of his powers is a better rapper than kendrick. kendrick isnt an a1 lyricist bro. hes a great mc tho and top 5 because of his quality of music not his actual rapping

Imo kendrick is the Best rapper and makes better art. Drake is the most versatile and hit maker (although recently thats kendrick, but drake did that for years)

Cole is just trying to follow their steps...hes nowhere near as good as kendrick is as a rapper when kendrick wants to rap rap, and is nowhere near as good as drake when it comes to make hits, sing, crossover etc

Dead ass. I don't think there's a single category where Cole is better than Kendrick. Kendrick is better at storytelling. Better at writing hooks. Better at conceptual writing. Better at the straight forward I'm better than you style. Better with the instrospective shyt.

J Cole could never in his life write a song like this

I said Kendrick made better art but Kendrick rarely makes the sort of stuff I want to consume and not project that “ah yes I am also an Intellectual”… I don’t need that branding to show I like quality all the time.
Exactly, he doesn't make music according to your own tastes, but he doesn't have to, and that doesn't mean he doesn't make the best music, because the quality of his music is superior :yeshrug:

Not only that, but we not gonna forget that Cole DID respond but it was so trash that he faced major backlash and apologized ...
This and I'm seeing people say this on social media as well. Glad people are not letting Cole fans rewrite history.

J.Cole dropped a diss track, it was just trash, simple as that... When that cole song dropped (and actually when the whole mixtape dropped), everybody wanted Kendrick vs Drake because Cole came up with garbage.

Nobody cares about the apology, we're just joking with that crap, the problem is the track he dropped.

Cole changed around 2016 when he was rolling out 4YEO, bro locked himself in a room and just started dedicating himself to becoming a rap demon. This is when he started to make the leap and now he’s lapped everybody. I think even Drake realizes this. He became my favorite of the three at that time. His only weakness is his lack of a killer instinct that Kendrick has and it has hurt him.

Album-wise, Cole is still behind Kendrick. He has great projects (FHD, Off-Season), but he's just closing the gap now. The Fall Off will go a long way in closing that gap even more.

It's still weird to me that people genuinely think Kendrick has lost it, or he's not rapping at a high level anymore. The difference between him and Cole is raw talent. Kendrick had it from the beginning, it was innate. That's why his earlier albums had the wow factor. He never went through an awkward stage during his discography, trying to figure out where he should go musically. By the time Section 80 came out, he was already a demon and he just had to refine his skills.

Cole went through growing pains trying to get to the same level as Kendrick (skills) and Drake (popularity). Friday Night Lights (which, to me, is his best project overall) wasn't his debut like it should have been, and his actual debut didn't have the same quality as his mixtapes. He didn't become comfortable in his own skin until FHD, and then he had to work to get to where he is now. That's why he sounds so impressive in 2025, because he's finally reaching his peak as a lyricist and songwriter.

Kendrick already reached his peak years ago, so anything he puts out now, no matter how good it is, comes off like stuff we've all heard before. Someone who grew up with his music isn't going to feel "Man at the Garden" or "Reincarnated" like they felt "Sing About Me" or "The Blacker the Berry." Great songs, but the earlier work makes your toes curl.

Woa Woa nikka... Kendrick wins skill, there's no fukking denying that LOL. Kendrick has pretty much mastered every fukking aspect of mceeing, probably the first rapper to master it all since Andre 3000, from the rythmic transitions to the sentence structure, Kendrick is way ahead of his peers in that aspect. nikka they're fukking writing books about Kendrick's rapping. This dude has perfected almost every style.

And what even is "songs" and "art"? kendrick is indeed a better artist because he makes better music, so that means "songs" goes to him too. But now if you're talking about "hit making abilities", I'd have no issue admitting Drake has crafted more hits through his career than Kendrick, who has himself crafted more hit songs than Cole.
Don’t let recency bias cloud your judgement. Drake was keeping the lights on for a lot of industry elements.

Key phrase is when Kendrick wants to rap rap. Half the time kendrick is swagging it out yelling slogans, and being lyrically ineficient.

Overall I think Kendrick is the best, but J Cole is just way more consistent as a writer and lyricist. Along with that, J Coles best verses can stand with Kendricks.

If both of them drop songs, im gonna check for Cole forst because I know there is a mich greater chance im gonna get solid rapping.
Right. Kendrick is now in “I gotta make this money back” mode.

Cole is not being tasked with re-couping any money for labels at this point.

Even Jay-Z was asking Drake to toss Cole a lay up
