Marvel has had iterations of almost all of their mainline heroes that retold their story with them getting powers/becoming heroes at a much younger age.

To me this is brilliant. Its not like they are removing Tony Stark from the universe. He is giving the suit to a girl who he sees potential in.
This is completely in-line with Tony's character because he's done this many times before.

Anyone who takes issue with this probably wasn't even an iron man fan to begin with, and probably doesn't even read comics...

Marvel has been doing more of this lately with the diversity thing. I rather they create new heroes/identities and give them their own fanbase and legacy than try to change their flagship heroes. I wonder if it's (lack of) creativity or financial concerns.

Eh I would say this is somewhere in-between.

They aren't removing Tony Stark from the universe. She is her own character. This isn't a retelling of Ironman's origin story with a black teenager instead of Tony Stark.

Would it make you feel better if Tony didn't giver her an Ironman suit, but instead gave her a suit of a different name?
