it still boggles my mind how much met fans loved Shinjo. not only was the guy a total prancing fakkit, he wasn't good at baseball.
Sandy on with Francesa now... Talking about upgrades behind the plate and in the OF... Not gonna release Bay. Has a lot of faith in the pitching, needs to do something with the offense. Doesn't sound like he's leaning towards trading Ike.
Sounds like keeping Wright and dikkey are priority, at least. Definitely not trading the young pitching, Harvey & Wheeler. I'd think he wouldn't have a problem trading Niese though.
Also sounds he's gonna try hard to trade Bay this offseason. I guess the Mets' offseason budget is gonna go towards trading Bay, but paying the last year of the contract anyway.
And goddamn, somebody get Sandy a glass of water. Lips continuously smacking together, coughing, choking...yuck.
If they will keep Wright and dikkey they will pass it off to the fans as the Mets are serious about contending but won't put anything around them.
The Mets are expected to start negotiations with David Wright by making an offer for somewhere in the neighborhood of $100MM, people familiar with the team's thinking told Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. The Mets are also expected to give negotiations at least most of October before even considering a deal for the star third baseman.
Heyman was told that General Manager Sandy Alderson & Co. hope to make Wright a Met "for life." A deal could include team options toward the end of the pact with the hope that the 29-year-old stays productive into his late 30s. Wright has opted to remain with the embattled ACES agency but Heyman writes that there's no indication that they have pressed the contract talks because of the timing of the probe into their practices.
Over the weekend, it was reported that Alderson could conceivably agree to extensions with both Wright and pitcher R.A. dikkey before the World Series. While Wright is likely seeking a $100MM+ deal, a veteran agent told Mike Puma of the New York Post that dikkey is probably eyeing Oliver Perez-type money, which would be $36MM over three years.
Shall we close up shop and start the offseason thread?
Let's get a nice title up too... something like "Moneyball in the NL... it doesn't work for us"
